I  been wondering what to write about when Today as I was reading the news , I got so ashamed, at the way Indian Government treats the citizens.. What made me even more ashamed was the fact how we the Indians treat each other.

With the recently concluded Rio Olympics the whole nation was going on and on and ONNNNNNNNNnn about how we won a couple of medals, there were posts being dedicated to the winners .. How they made it blah blah blah.. Some celebrities were coming out of their holes doling prize money .. I even heard Mr. Salman khan who earns Millions gave a sum of One lakh rupee to the Wrestler.   (I just read so please don’t shoot me if it right or wrong)..

Now lets come to the On going Paralympic going on in RIO,  India so far has won 8 .. yes you heard right EIGHT medals ,

medaltally

WE have Two Gold , Three silver and 3 Bronze …..

BUT the question that I have is to the comment made by our Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Wednesday, According to a leading Newspaper he refused to commit if medallists of the ongoing Rio Paralympics will be conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award — the highest sporting honour in the country. An Olympic medallist directly qualifies for the Khel Ratna award but Mr. Goel said there was no such policy in place for the Paralympians. “Our Paralympians have made India proud by winning four medals so far in Rio. But on the issue of awards, there has been no decision on any such policy for Paralympians. We will take up the matter,”  ..   How Sad is that for a country

We sent a delegation of 100+ sports men/women to the Main Olympics, who came back with 2 medals , almost all the media was hyping about it all, no end of sponsorships, leading sports people including Mr. Sachin Tendulkar were the sports Brand for olympics..

In contrast to that, look at the delegation sent for Paralympics , who have already won 8 medals including 2 Gold, Don’t see any sponsors running after them, maybe because all the sports authorities could not go along with the delegation for ANOTHER Holiday to RIO with all expenses paid.

Even the Twitter handles are quiet Sleepy , no furore on the winnings  not even the insults that flew around earlier against the authorities , people just seem to be oblivious to this event going on,  Whatsapp groups are quiet too.. Very Strange… Blogging World is QUIET too, dont see any blogs written..

It is indeed a shame for us too as citizens we cry hoarse at everything but now that the time is there to be proud of these brilliant sports men/women who have gone through MORE hardships then some of the ABLE Athletes we are not even ready to acknowledge their feats let alone feel proud of their achievements.

Well done to all the Athletes who made it to the games , Really proud of you guys. Brillaintly Done Guys, you deserve many many accolades fingers crossed and I hope.  sorry for the Way we as a nation Treat the sports personalities.  Thank you for making us so proud.

Cricket is a funny game don’t you think, Na I don’t mean the way India are playing at the moment in the Second test against  England getting thrashed . so much for being a spin playing nation who has world-class spinners and what not .. Well here we are our spinners can’t get wickets .. while the foreigners are getting all the wickets …

Our  batsmen well again can do bugger all.. they are getting out to SPINNER which they are supposed to play properly and Experts in.. Anyway forgetting about that .. Cricket is a funny .. it’s the only game where if you hit a ball out of the ground you get 6  runs or 6 points ..

But here is a thought – > There is this batsmen all padded up with a helmet on , Pads all over him , leg pads – thigh pads – gloves , protecting him all over .. and yet there  is this guy sitting outside without a shirt , a beer in hand relaxing and a BALL HITS HIM.. what happens the Batsmen gets  6 runs .. and the bloke nothing ..  other than a BUMP on his head … 🙂

Have You seen the Olympic opening ceremony, Especially when they all come out the athletes I mean representing their countries .. Now there are some countries which we have never heard of , The opening ceremony is the only time we hear the names . I mean at least I have not heard of some of them ,  Where do these  countries exist and how come only during Olympics we find them, I bet the person who is announcing the names of the countries is just sitting and making up the names ..

and Here is the team from  “Make-up-Istaan” or  “Made-Up-istaan”  .. and then I think the same man runs, changes his jacket and come out with a different flag “he-is-Back_istaaan”

I had this brain wave ,  We are lucky nowadays that phones have gone digital and with the advent of mobile phones things have changed a lot , But cast you mind back to the good old days .. Those big Black Telephones.. which have a Dialler and you have to put the tip of your finger to dial the number ….

Right Ne think about the emergency numbers , WHO was the intelligent person who decided on the numbers 999..   Now imagine there is an emergency , someone is laying on the road hit by a truck or something , you run to the nearest phone booth  and it is that OLD dialler phone ..

You are rolling the digit 9.. and then  letting it go ..

rolling again and letting it go ..

rolling the number 9 and then letting it go,.

Operator – “What’s the emergency ” ..

You– “Well its OK .. the person is DEAD now ” .. it takes so long to dial the Three numbers .. 🙂

Ok  Another Thing.. Has anyone of you ever walked into a room and Forgotten .. what you wanted or the Reason you came to that room to .. Right .. what do you do .. You stand and then you ask yourself

“WHY DID I COME INTO THIS ROOM” .. off course in your own mind,  WHYYYYYYYYYYY.. why do you ask that ..

Because .. YOU Don’t know why you are in the ROOM .. so why will you ask yourself  for HELP 🙂

PS:- Monday is here another start to the week, Have a great week people .. enjoy it to its fullest.. Hope you had a great weekend.

PSS:- I have removed the post the controversial one,  Thank you to everyone who read it and commented it .. and thank you for all the emails I have received , I am blessed to have you all as my good friends .. God has been kind to me .. THANK YOU EVERYONE. I was chatting to another Good blogger who said to me , Never ever let anyone Treat you like SHIT.. and that was the reason I put the post .. 🙂  Thank you TBAB..

PS:- Images courtesy Google images.

I have been thinking of the coming sports spectacular in august time this year yeah the olympics, yes we have  the olympics 2012 … I remember watching the opening ceremony in 2008 , that was held in Beijing china , I am sure everyone will agree to that , IT was a spectacular It was something worth watching – it was the best ever so far,  china did wonderful in 2008.. the stadiums they built all of them were super awesome but then thinking about it all , IT is really amazing what you can do with no human rights and a billion slave labourers.. 🙂 ooops

So this year we have it in uk, although work is in full progress, sadly we have very stringent human labour rules but BUT.. BUT.. oh yes BUT .. The biggest problem we are going to face in UK for olympics is if  health and safety get hold of it, we who live in uk, know how that works ..  the claim for everything culture has also gone out of hand , people don’t use common-sense which apparently is not that common anymore.

Anyway coming back to the health and safety If they take it upon themselves to make sure this year olympics is held as per all their rules , I am wondering rather I am sure of the changes that will happen…

First of all  lets take the hurdles race, they will have Ramps put up , WELL  its health and safety issue how will someone jump over this hurdle, it is so risky they may fall down, hit their leg on the hurdle, or worse still some smart brains might just sue them for putting hurdles on a perfect straight TRACK.. 🙂  imagine all the suing that will take place for not putting the hurdles properly 🙂

Secondly imagine when they  do a risk assessment on the Javelin throw .. asking fellow athletes some questions and the HORRIFIC look they will have when they are told the Javelin has to be thrown “YOU ARE NOT GOING To throw it”  .. ARE YOU .. noooooooooooooooooo..

Same with boxing, A Russian or indian or any other county Boxer is Boxing with an English boxer, The moment he gets a Jab .. SUE THE COUNTRY .. You can’t hit somebody else .. It is an ASSAULT… 🙂 They might just call the police and you may just be charged with Section X of XYZ act.. 🙂

To put matters worse we will have the teachers and the education ministry will have their people Slogan-ing and rallying saying We can’t have Races … We can’t have anyone win the race .. it will upset the others, We can’t have Winners.. All the racers will be given the Gold medal.. no winners no losers.. 🙂

The weird and pressured regime of health and safety in UK 🙂 It has gone bonkers here anyone and everyone who can sue or put a claim for something is doing it , I so wonder something where has common sense gone.

I mean remember those good old days when we all had something that was called COMMON SENSE..   in those days.. When we saw a big hole in the road and we stepped aside to crossed it, If we saw a tile or a slab not put properly we avoided stepping on it , or we put a foot feel how it was and then put the second foot on..

oh WOW, how did you learn to do that, See a hole and cross it .. Well my parents told me not to be a MORON and I just carried on from there …

Here in UK if you happen to go for a walk in a park or anywhere and there is a pool or water reservoir in it , you will see all these signs around it at every possible place or a  Big FENSE  saying ..“Dont go in the water …  you will fall and YOU MAY drown ..” I mean have we gone so stupid that we don’t realise we may drown.

Another thing that makes me so angry is the bloody political correctness … no one can say anything because someone can be offended, You cant say this or that, have to be so conscious about it , I think that if someone does get offended then SO WHAT..  whats wrong with it, It’s not as if a bomb has been exploded by Al qaieda killing hundreds ..

You know when we were kids  , we came home  told our parents

“he called me an idiot ”

Parents said  “don’t worry about it , he is an idiot too”..

Nowadays the child will cry and the parent will start to cry too and the usual moan will start Oh I am offended,  I am so offended  and I have rights ..

To all those people let me tell you  WELL SO WHAT be offended, nothing happens you are an adult .. deal with it .. Haven’t heard of anyone dieing of being offended.. GROW UP

And I bet now that most of you have read it please don’t go about saying Oh I have read this article by Bikram and I am offended .. I am so offended reading this article…

I was reading an article on the above and I was really amused at the comments etc. put up by people on the above issue, That if sportsmen are included then who should the First Bharat ratna go , I was amazed and ASTONISHED and SURPRISED too that the name of Sachin Tendulkar was making the rounds .. Please tell me what’s wrong with the people who think he should be the first one, No doubt that he is a great sportsman… But my question is why he deserves to be the first one when there are other sportsmen who deserve more and have done more for the sports of the nation.  We as a nation love to run after media and the limelight, I would like to ask one question what is it that Sachin has supposedly done for the nation. Yes he is ONE of the greatest players of cricket, He is the One who has all the records, No doubts about it…

The books, scores, points speak for him, so very true… If we do look logically all those milestones have come at a higher number of matches that he has played…, I am a great fan of Sachin, I have missed classes-work to see him bat and play, and will continue to do so. I dont have an ounce of question mark on his personal and professional behaviour. He has been at top of his game for so many years , whereas a lot came and went during the time… HE IS DESERVING OF THE BHARAT RATNA .. No doubts about it but I also think he is not deserving of being the First one to get the biggest award that india has to offer when there are Players and other sportsmen who have done much more for the NATION and not just for their own pocket. Sachin has made a name yes, but he has been equally rewarded by the amount of money he has been given and Not asked the question when he did not perform.

A Name that comes to mind is that of Major Dhyan Chand the GOD of hockey, which my dear readers is supposedly the NATIONAL GAME of our nation, we keep running about how this is wrong in our nation that is wrong in our nation, We as citizens have not been able to follow our own national game and we have the time to talk such silly talks.

Whether you are a hockey lover or not, anyone who claims to be a sports lover would, or should, know about Dhyan Chand. He was instrumental in the country winning three successive Olympic Gold medals in hockey – 1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles and 1936 Berlin… This man is a Myth – a Legend and has folk stories following his exploits…  It is said that

  •  After India played its first match in the 1936 Olympics, Dhyan Chand’s magical stick work drew crowds from other venues to the hockey field. A German newspaper carried a banner headline: ‘The Olympic complex now has a magic show too.’  The next day, there were posters all over Berlin: Visit the hockey stadium to watch the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action.
  • Example of the level of patriotism: In 1936 Dhyan Chand won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal in hockey.  Hitler walked off the field in a huff – the Indian team had beaten Germany 8-1 and Chand had scored six of the goals. Next day, Hitler offered Chand a position in the German army that was considerably higher than that which he held in India.  Chand politely declined.
  • In Holland, the authorities broke his hockey stick to check if there was a magnet inside
  • On one occasion, a lady from the audience asked Dhyan Chand to play with her walking stick instead. He scored goals even with them!
  • Cricket world’s legend Don Bradman and Hockey’s greatest player Dhyan Chand once came face to face at Adelaide in 1935, when the Indian hockey team was in Australia. After watching Dhyan Chand in action, Don Bradman remarked “He scores goals like runs in cricket”
  • Residents of Vienna, Austria, honoured him by setting up a statue of him with four hands and four sticks, depicting his control and mastery over the ball.
  • In 1936 itself the Indian contingent which was the hockey team Refused to salute Hitler… the only other team to do that was the Americans. The crowd watched in dismay as the Indians did not offer the Nazi salute and while their gesture went largely unnoticed back home, it created quite a stir in Germany.

He was, simply, ‘The Hockey Wizard’, scoring over 400 goals in his international career.  He was just that good.  The recent giving out of the Padam shri awards to all sorts of people with doubtful integrity has devalued this award.

Another point that I want to make is that all other sportsmen have some sort of equivalent in there field , Sachin has fellow cricketers who are almost as good the likes of the Rahul dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev …  But Dhyan Chand when he played, He was unparalleled, no one came close not just from Indian players but worldwide. Such was his mastery over the Stick. There are so many stories about his exploits on the field all over the world do we think that Sachin’s Exploits are that amazing ?

Sachin has just won ONE world cup in his entire career, whereas Dhyan Chand won Three and he was Instrumental in all the wins, Sachin as we know has not been always that instrumental.

Some of the facts that I have found out in my searches…

In the year 1926 Dhyan Chand was selected for the Indian Hockey team going to visit New Zealand at a tour. During the tour, the Indian team scored 20 goals in a match played at Dannkerke, and Dhyan Chand alone had scored 10 of them. India played 21 matches on the tour, out of which it won 18, lost 1 and drew 2 matches. The team scored a total number of 192 goals and Dhyan Chand alone had scored over 100 of them… At the London Folkestone Festival in 1927, he scored 36 goals out of India’s total 72 goals, in 10 matches played at the event.

In the Los Angeles Olympics 1932, the Indian team led by Lal Shah Bukhari again won the Gold medal. In the tournament, the Indian Hockey team defeated the USA Hockey team by 23-1, which remained a world record until it was broken in the year 2003. Out of these 23 goals, 8 were scored alone by Dhyan Chand. In the event, Dhyan Chand scored 12 goals for India in 2 matches.

In the Berlin Olympics 1936, Indian had successfully treaded their path to the finals crushing Hungary by 4-0, USA by 7-0,  Japan  9-0 , France 10 -0 without conceding a single goal in the tournament. and was going to combat Germany in the Finals. In the Final match, the Indian squad could score only 1 goal till the interval. Dhyan Chand removed his shoes in the interval and played the match barefooted onwards. The Indian team won the match and the Gold medal by 8-1.

In 1932, India scored 338 goals in 37 matches, of which 133 were from the Dhyan Chand’s magic wand.

 A famous story goes thus:

  • He put through a ball to K D Singh Babu, then turned his back and walked away. When Babu asked for an explanation, he was told, “If you could not get a goal from that you did not deserve to be on my team.”
  • Once, In a game many of the shots hits by him were missing the goal post, Dhyan Chand argued with the match referee regarding the measurement of the goal post, and amazingly, it was found to not be in conformation with the official width of a goal post.

Dhyan Chand had complete mastery over the game, His placements were perfect, and many a times he did not even have to look where the player was the Ball reached the player, when he was expected to shoot, he would pass and when he passed, he expected the player not to miss.

After his retirment he would still embarrass goalkeepers during practise games by dropping the ball and driving it into the corner of the net on the half volley ten times in a row.

Two things that will encapsulate his greatness.

Once an invitation to play in East Africa stipulated a condition: No Dhyan Chand, no invitation

A statue of the whiz in a Vienna sports club, it is said, shows a man with four arms and four sticks.

It is a pity that we as a nation never give due recognition to anyone who deserves Especially when they are alive, The same happened with this great man too. India’s highest award for lifetime achievement in sports is the Dhyan Chand Award which has been awarded annually from 2002 to sporting figures who not only contribute through their performance but also contribute to the sport after their retirement. Yet we are debating over the fact that who should be the first sportsman to get the most prestigious award.. WELL WHO ELSE ?
