This is the easiest post to put, yesterday were the selections for NBA D-League and My brother has been selected for the Long island Nets, He was their Fourth pick, and Diwali all over again for  us.

He is now only the second Indian basketball-er to play in the D-League, the minor division of the elite NBA, but sadly as is with every sport  other than cricket in India the Indian Govt. just did not do enough to keep a talent like him in the country.

The Punjab Govt has been the worst, ministers and officials are busy filling their own coffers, not interested in welfare of sports Athletes, what a shame BUT  never mind I think the best decision was to go abroad, hard work and lots of sweat was put in to reach this place, At least now he can achieve his full potential, Loss for Indian Govt. But then its ok they deserve it , and I don’t want to put a damper talking of our Govt apathy on such a milestone day and a HAPPY DAY..

I have so many pics and videos of him playing but sadly wordpress would not let me put videos in the post and I don’t know how to put them up.

From such a humble beginning he has achieved so much..  My best wishes to my brother and here’s wishing he makes us all more and MORE proud..

So Everyone please please Pray for him and send your blessings…  next year this time hopefully MAIN LEAGUE 🙂 or am I expecting too much, I have told him he BETTER work his A__E off, last night, no matter what the MAIN league is the Target if not next year then 2018.. OH YESssssssss  , I am already packing my bags to go visit and see Him in Action ..

So Watch out People Punjabi’s are in the House ..

The Photographs have not come out good because we were all doing it and no one taking pics .. Got a couple of shots I hope they are good enough although I must say the experience was Worth it .. Although very expensive

That’s me in Orange

I was reading an article on the above and I was really amused at the comments etc. put up by people on the above issue, That if sportsmen are included then who should the First Bharat ratna go , I was amazed and ASTONISHED and SURPRISED too that the name of Sachin Tendulkar was making the rounds .. Please tell me what’s wrong with the people who think he should be the first one, No doubt that he is a great sportsman… But my question is why he deserves to be the first one when there are other sportsmen who deserve more and have done more for the sports of the nation.  We as a nation love to run after media and the limelight, I would like to ask one question what is it that Sachin has supposedly done for the nation. Yes he is ONE of the greatest players of cricket, He is the One who has all the records, No doubts about it…

The books, scores, points speak for him, so very true… If we do look logically all those milestones have come at a higher number of matches that he has played…, I am a great fan of Sachin, I have missed classes-work to see him bat and play, and will continue to do so. I dont have an ounce of question mark on his personal and professional behaviour. He has been at top of his game for so many years , whereas a lot came and went during the time… HE IS DESERVING OF THE BHARAT RATNA .. No doubts about it but I also think he is not deserving of being the First one to get the biggest award that india has to offer when there are Players and other sportsmen who have done much more for the NATION and not just for their own pocket. Sachin has made a name yes, but he has been equally rewarded by the amount of money he has been given and Not asked the question when he did not perform.

A Name that comes to mind is that of Major Dhyan Chand the GOD of hockey, which my dear readers is supposedly the NATIONAL GAME of our nation, we keep running about how this is wrong in our nation that is wrong in our nation, We as citizens have not been able to follow our own national game and we have the time to talk such silly talks.

Whether you are a hockey lover or not, anyone who claims to be a sports lover would, or should, know about Dhyan Chand. He was instrumental in the country winning three successive Olympic Gold medals in hockey – 1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles and 1936 Berlin… This man is a Myth – a Legend and has folk stories following his exploits…  It is said that

  •  After India played its first match in the 1936 Olympics, Dhyan Chand’s magical stick work drew crowds from other venues to the hockey field. A German newspaper carried a banner headline: ‘The Olympic complex now has a magic show too.’  The next day, there were posters all over Berlin: Visit the hockey stadium to watch the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action.
  • Example of the level of patriotism: In 1936 Dhyan Chand won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal in hockey.  Hitler walked off the field in a huff – the Indian team had beaten Germany 8-1 and Chand had scored six of the goals. Next day, Hitler offered Chand a position in the German army that was considerably higher than that which he held in India.  Chand politely declined.
  • In Holland, the authorities broke his hockey stick to check if there was a magnet inside
  • On one occasion, a lady from the audience asked Dhyan Chand to play with her walking stick instead. He scored goals even with them!
  • Cricket world’s legend Don Bradman and Hockey’s greatest player Dhyan Chand once came face to face at Adelaide in 1935, when the Indian hockey team was in Australia. After watching Dhyan Chand in action, Don Bradman remarked “He scores goals like runs in cricket”
  • Residents of Vienna, Austria, honoured him by setting up a statue of him with four hands and four sticks, depicting his control and mastery over the ball.
  • In 1936 itself the Indian contingent which was the hockey team Refused to salute Hitler… the only other team to do that was the Americans. The crowd watched in dismay as the Indians did not offer the Nazi salute and while their gesture went largely unnoticed back home, it created quite a stir in Germany.

He was, simply, ‘The Hockey Wizard’, scoring over 400 goals in his international career.  He was just that good.  The recent giving out of the Padam shri awards to all sorts of people with doubtful integrity has devalued this award.

Another point that I want to make is that all other sportsmen have some sort of equivalent in there field , Sachin has fellow cricketers who are almost as good the likes of the Rahul dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev …  But Dhyan Chand when he played, He was unparalleled, no one came close not just from Indian players but worldwide. Such was his mastery over the Stick. There are so many stories about his exploits on the field all over the world do we think that Sachin’s Exploits are that amazing ?

Sachin has just won ONE world cup in his entire career, whereas Dhyan Chand won Three and he was Instrumental in all the wins, Sachin as we know has not been always that instrumental.

Some of the facts that I have found out in my searches…

In the year 1926 Dhyan Chand was selected for the Indian Hockey team going to visit New Zealand at a tour. During the tour, the Indian team scored 20 goals in a match played at Dannkerke, and Dhyan Chand alone had scored 10 of them. India played 21 matches on the tour, out of which it won 18, lost 1 and drew 2 matches. The team scored a total number of 192 goals and Dhyan Chand alone had scored over 100 of them… At the London Folkestone Festival in 1927, he scored 36 goals out of India’s total 72 goals, in 10 matches played at the event.

In the Los Angeles Olympics 1932, the Indian team led by Lal Shah Bukhari again won the Gold medal. In the tournament, the Indian Hockey team defeated the USA Hockey team by 23-1, which remained a world record until it was broken in the year 2003. Out of these 23 goals, 8 were scored alone by Dhyan Chand. In the event, Dhyan Chand scored 12 goals for India in 2 matches.

In the Berlin Olympics 1936, Indian had successfully treaded their path to the finals crushing Hungary by 4-0, USA by 7-0,  Japan  9-0 , France 10 -0 without conceding a single goal in the tournament. and was going to combat Germany in the Finals. In the Final match, the Indian squad could score only 1 goal till the interval. Dhyan Chand removed his shoes in the interval and played the match barefooted onwards. The Indian team won the match and the Gold medal by 8-1.

In 1932, India scored 338 goals in 37 matches, of which 133 were from the Dhyan Chand’s magic wand.

 A famous story goes thus:

  • He put through a ball to K D Singh Babu, then turned his back and walked away. When Babu asked for an explanation, he was told, “If you could not get a goal from that you did not deserve to be on my team.”
  • Once, In a game many of the shots hits by him were missing the goal post, Dhyan Chand argued with the match referee regarding the measurement of the goal post, and amazingly, it was found to not be in conformation with the official width of a goal post.

Dhyan Chand had complete mastery over the game, His placements were perfect, and many a times he did not even have to look where the player was the Ball reached the player, when he was expected to shoot, he would pass and when he passed, he expected the player not to miss.

After his retirment he would still embarrass goalkeepers during practise games by dropping the ball and driving it into the corner of the net on the half volley ten times in a row.

Two things that will encapsulate his greatness.

Once an invitation to play in East Africa stipulated a condition: No Dhyan Chand, no invitation

A statue of the whiz in a Vienna sports club, it is said, shows a man with four arms and four sticks.

It is a pity that we as a nation never give due recognition to anyone who deserves Especially when they are alive, The same happened with this great man too. India’s highest award for lifetime achievement in sports is the Dhyan Chand Award which has been awarded annually from 2002 to sporting figures who not only contribute through their performance but also contribute to the sport after their retirement. Yet we are debating over the fact that who should be the first sportsman to get the most prestigious award.. WELL WHO ELSE ?

The team that played the FIRST Olympic Hockey Game

The Olympic winners of 1928

Indian team has been found wanting in the match, they have had to play some tough cricket and look what happened.. What amazes me is the way we have lost the match ..

India needs a firm grip over the way things are going on , a lot of patching needs doing , we have spent so much time on the IPL that the matches where it matters .. well we have seen what has happened .. the so-called top 3 did not do well at all, I don’t want to be mean to the little master but will he ever perform when the Indian team needs him the most .. I don’t see many matches where he has dug his heels and said I AM NOT GETTING OUT ..

Bhajji came and hit some shots but it was too late for anything ..

I know test match is a tough cricket .. India did not look tough enough.. I don’t know how the politics works in the team, but we never looked like a winning team, While watching the match in the first innings when things were not going the english way , Yet they looked a TEAM. a tough team..  and they all worked together , Not One player or top 3 or whatever .. they worked together .. If strauss could not make runs the tail ender Broad was taking india for a ride.  The english opener did not score many runs but the other players picked up ..

Indians had a sorry score card.. first innings Broad took us apart and this innings Bresnan took us apart.. I feel sorry for our boys and I hope they get there act together ..

We have the talent but why are we not giving them the chance, why are the likes of rohit , virat not there , we play a lot of cricket the ipl , the one dayers and then we went to the Caribbean , we should have been on the ball raring to go but alas it did not happen…  I know many of the players will make it a excuse of too hectic a schedule , well all i will say to them is say no to IPL… which i doubt any of the players will do because of the Moolah involved..

Sorry if i sound harsh but It was hurting watching the matches and the way we have played , A few players did not go to west indies what were they going back home should they not have been preparing for this tour, I a ma big big fan of Zaheer and Yuvraj but I felt they looked Unfit , they had not been going to the Gym while in india .. working out , keeping fit.. Our team is not as fit as the english team.

We are a team of individual stars hoping that they will perform, it seems we can never play as a TEAM.  Look at the fitness of both the teams and I am sure anyone can see ..  One side ready to perform at the highest level, the other side individual left to their own devices HOPING they will perform ..

When we are a top team a number one team .. a lot depends on the bench strength but we have been found wanting ,  when it loses a pace man who has a lot of variety in his armoury we don’t have a replacement …

Sehwag is to come in the next match lets see what he brings .. He is a great player we all know but what can he alone do, Yet I do have this feeling that with him in the team the opponents bowlers will have something to think about so that might work in our favour.  I hope Gambhir comes back too..

What I mean about being tough and fit is that on the first day of the second test match Gambhir was rolling and diving in the nets on the arm supposedly with a bad injury or broken,  yet he is sitting outside injured , where is the theme gone when the going gets tough the tough get going,  Thats when boys become MEN, I would have expected Gambhir to walk out and Play, there have been players who have actually played with broken bones, I remember Kumble bowling with a broken jaw.. Now that man was tough he would not sit outside miss a game .. Thats the type of players we need when we have such high-profile tours, Winning west indies we were complacent.

The english team has put us right where we are, sitting on glory majority of the time.. I hope the third test brings something new and our boys forget this loss and come out raring and playing as a team .. I know we can’t win the series now but lets not lose it boys .. GET up and DO your best …

There has to be some toughness that needs to come, it is a big test about our character we have been very sloppy in every department of  the game , its time we showed the world why we ARE the number one team in the world and toughen up..

Hopefully Sehwag will bring that toughness in the team..  We are a side known for our batting and batting is what has let us down , the bowlers though not at par with the english yet did a good job for india..  its time the players did something with the bat and showed that they deserve to be in the team..  It is time to perform boys… All the best …  .. See you at edgbaston, birmingham.. Hopefully I will see you play on the weekend … My tickets are on way ..

TRI COLOUR IS THE COLOUR OF OURS — COME ON INDIA SHOW THEM STARSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssss … .

Angry

Posted: October 28, 2009 in Angry, India, Sports

I am so angry today , I usually reach work at 9am and for the first 10 minutes or so I read the Times of India newspaper online. One of the articles made me very angry.. I learned that the President of India, was in London to recieve the Baton for the commonwealth games… WTF…

Why do we have this in our nature still to think its so distinguised and honour to meet the queen. ?

Why do we still feel so inferior to the white skin ?

Why are we under such a awe of White people ?

I am not racist or anything, but it just makes me mad.. We ARE HUMANS .. EQUAL TO ANY AND ALL… Still the coments made by some of the leaders , sportmen saying its a honour blah blah to be in London to meet the Queen.

The Queen who is nothing but a parasite on its own people in the country, I mean she lives off the tax payers money .. WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT MEETING HER.. and that too a President of a Country which suffered hundreds of atrocities from the same very hands who we are trying to impress all the time.

I am fuming now at the very thought of Kapil Dev our Star Icon cricketer, I respected him he was/is my hero , But comments like this. I dont think any other coutry would send there PRESIDENT to get the Baton.

There is a Blog on the site written by Mr Tarun Vijay, which has the following lines

“We are a nation that produced a large number of rai bahadurs and sirs and rao sahebs while ‘crazy deewane’ were becoming Bhagat Singhs and Rajgurus and Sukhdevs. There were a large section of our Indians who thought it prudent to keep a silence on Jalianwala Bagh, honour the butcher Dyer even after the gruesome incident. It’s another matter that we had those Casablancas too who preferred gallows to knighthood.

Pratibha Patil and Kapil Devs have joined the ranks of those who have no sense of history, leave aside a sense of pride in the sacrifices of revolutionaries who fought the British. We are the world’s greatest living democracy, much larger and with a better civilisational background and track record of humanity than the British. Why should a head of a democracy present herself before a queen, a symbol of a decaying, old tradition, which has lost all relevance to the contemporary values of civil society? Shouldn’t they be raising questions that why the lady occupying Buckingham Palace must remain the head of the Commonwealth? The most logical and contextually correct thing would be to have a head of a democratic sovereign as its chief and not a titular icon of a royalty that stinks with the blood of our revolutionaries and whose wealth is built on the loot of India?

Pratibha Patil hasn’t found time to visit Hussainiwala , the memorial to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. Or the Jalianwala Bagh. London seems to be more inviting to her. What a shame that India should send a large contingent of sportsmen along with her. “

It was good to read the blog , there are still people out there who think like me.
I am really angry Wish i could do something about it.
