I was reading an article on the above and I was really amused at the comments etc. put up by people on the above issue, That if sportsmen are included then who should the First Bharat ratna go , I was amazed and ASTONISHED and SURPRISED too that the name of Sachin Tendulkar was making the rounds .. Please tell me what’s wrong with the people who think he should be the first one, No doubt that he is a great sportsman… But my question is why he deserves to be the first one when there are other sportsmen who deserve more and have done more for the sports of the nation.  We as a nation love to run after media and the limelight, I would like to ask one question what is it that Sachin has supposedly done for the nation. Yes he is ONE of the greatest players of cricket, He is the One who has all the records, No doubts about it…

The books, scores, points speak for him, so very true… If we do look logically all those milestones have come at a higher number of matches that he has played…, I am a great fan of Sachin, I have missed classes-work to see him bat and play, and will continue to do so. I dont have an ounce of question mark on his personal and professional behaviour. He has been at top of his game for so many years , whereas a lot came and went during the time… HE IS DESERVING OF THE BHARAT RATNA .. No doubts about it but I also think he is not deserving of being the First one to get the biggest award that india has to offer when there are Players and other sportsmen who have done much more for the NATION and not just for their own pocket. Sachin has made a name yes, but he has been equally rewarded by the amount of money he has been given and Not asked the question when he did not perform.

A Name that comes to mind is that of Major Dhyan Chand the GOD of hockey, which my dear readers is supposedly the NATIONAL GAME of our nation, we keep running about how this is wrong in our nation that is wrong in our nation, We as citizens have not been able to follow our own national game and we have the time to talk such silly talks.

Whether you are a hockey lover or not, anyone who claims to be a sports lover would, or should, know about Dhyan Chand. He was instrumental in the country winning three successive Olympic Gold medals in hockey – 1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles and 1936 Berlin… This man is a Myth – a Legend and has folk stories following his exploits…  It is said that

  •  After India played its first match in the 1936 Olympics, Dhyan Chand’s magical stick work drew crowds from other venues to the hockey field. A German newspaper carried a banner headline: ‘The Olympic complex now has a magic show too.’  The next day, there were posters all over Berlin: Visit the hockey stadium to watch the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action.
  • Example of the level of patriotism: In 1936 Dhyan Chand won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal in hockey.  Hitler walked off the field in a huff – the Indian team had beaten Germany 8-1 and Chand had scored six of the goals. Next day, Hitler offered Chand a position in the German army that was considerably higher than that which he held in India.  Chand politely declined.
  • In Holland, the authorities broke his hockey stick to check if there was a magnet inside
  • On one occasion, a lady from the audience asked Dhyan Chand to play with her walking stick instead. He scored goals even with them!
  • Cricket world’s legend Don Bradman and Hockey’s greatest player Dhyan Chand once came face to face at Adelaide in 1935, when the Indian hockey team was in Australia. After watching Dhyan Chand in action, Don Bradman remarked “He scores goals like runs in cricket”
  • Residents of Vienna, Austria, honoured him by setting up a statue of him with four hands and four sticks, depicting his control and mastery over the ball.
  • In 1936 itself the Indian contingent which was the hockey team Refused to salute Hitler… the only other team to do that was the Americans. The crowd watched in dismay as the Indians did not offer the Nazi salute and while their gesture went largely unnoticed back home, it created quite a stir in Germany.

He was, simply, ‘The Hockey Wizard’, scoring over 400 goals in his international career.  He was just that good.  The recent giving out of the Padam shri awards to all sorts of people with doubtful integrity has devalued this award.

Another point that I want to make is that all other sportsmen have some sort of equivalent in there field , Sachin has fellow cricketers who are almost as good the likes of the Rahul dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev …  But Dhyan Chand when he played, He was unparalleled, no one came close not just from Indian players but worldwide. Such was his mastery over the Stick. There are so many stories about his exploits on the field all over the world do we think that Sachin’s Exploits are that amazing ?

Sachin has just won ONE world cup in his entire career, whereas Dhyan Chand won Three and he was Instrumental in all the wins, Sachin as we know has not been always that instrumental.

Some of the facts that I have found out in my searches…

In the year 1926 Dhyan Chand was selected for the Indian Hockey team going to visit New Zealand at a tour. During the tour, the Indian team scored 20 goals in a match played at Dannkerke, and Dhyan Chand alone had scored 10 of them. India played 21 matches on the tour, out of which it won 18, lost 1 and drew 2 matches. The team scored a total number of 192 goals and Dhyan Chand alone had scored over 100 of them… At the London Folkestone Festival in 1927, he scored 36 goals out of India’s total 72 goals, in 10 matches played at the event.

In the Los Angeles Olympics 1932, the Indian team led by Lal Shah Bukhari again won the Gold medal. In the tournament, the Indian Hockey team defeated the USA Hockey team by 23-1, which remained a world record until it was broken in the year 2003. Out of these 23 goals, 8 were scored alone by Dhyan Chand. In the event, Dhyan Chand scored 12 goals for India in 2 matches.

In the Berlin Olympics 1936, Indian had successfully treaded their path to the finals crushing Hungary by 4-0, USA by 7-0,  Japan  9-0 , France 10 -0 without conceding a single goal in the tournament. and was going to combat Germany in the Finals. In the Final match, the Indian squad could score only 1 goal till the interval. Dhyan Chand removed his shoes in the interval and played the match barefooted onwards. The Indian team won the match and the Gold medal by 8-1.

In 1932, India scored 338 goals in 37 matches, of which 133 were from the Dhyan Chand’s magic wand.

 A famous story goes thus:

  • He put through a ball to K D Singh Babu, then turned his back and walked away. When Babu asked for an explanation, he was told, “If you could not get a goal from that you did not deserve to be on my team.”
  • Once, In a game many of the shots hits by him were missing the goal post, Dhyan Chand argued with the match referee regarding the measurement of the goal post, and amazingly, it was found to not be in conformation with the official width of a goal post.

Dhyan Chand had complete mastery over the game, His placements were perfect, and many a times he did not even have to look where the player was the Ball reached the player, when he was expected to shoot, he would pass and when he passed, he expected the player not to miss.

After his retirment he would still embarrass goalkeepers during practise games by dropping the ball and driving it into the corner of the net on the half volley ten times in a row.

Two things that will encapsulate his greatness.

Once an invitation to play in East Africa stipulated a condition: No Dhyan Chand, no invitation

A statue of the whiz in a Vienna sports club, it is said, shows a man with four arms and four sticks.

It is a pity that we as a nation never give due recognition to anyone who deserves Especially when they are alive, The same happened with this great man too. India’s highest award for lifetime achievement in sports is the Dhyan Chand Award which has been awarded annually from 2002 to sporting figures who not only contribute through their performance but also contribute to the sport after their retirement. Yet we are debating over the fact that who should be the first sportsman to get the most prestigious award.. WELL WHO ELSE ?

This is a Repost of a article written last year for a competition here , I did not have anything more to write on the politics in india so am Reposting it here Again 🙂 A lot has been written already on the politics-independance day and all in blogosphere 🙂  As such nothing much has changed from last year to today .. same thoughts still exist

Phatte: So, the monsoons are finally here huh? Don’t you just love the feel of the rains? The beautiful breeze that flows and how everything is green in Mumbai?

Vijay: You mean of what little green is left in the city? I’m not really enjoying the rains. My house is getting more unstable day by day. Imagine what a day of continuous rain will do to it.

Phatte: But didn’t your MLA start off some initiative to rebuild houses in the chawl? I noticed the posters plastered all over the place.

Vijay: Yes he did. Just like he promised electricity, subsidized food tickets for the needy and a school exclusively for the chawl kids. Somehow those “schemes” are yet to be started and it’s been couple of years already since the last elections.

Phatte: Well, I think you should talk to your MLA about this.

Vijay: That will take at least a few years. What to do about my house till then?

Phatte: Why a few years?

Vijay: Well, the MLA comes only a month before the elections and then leaves a month after. And even during the rallies and pre-election chaos, he only visits some chawls, picks up the weakest looking kids and talks to the women. We just wave at him from a distance.
Phatte: I know. That is the story everywhere. I don’t even remember the name of the MLA of my area. Why don’t you shift bases then? Go to Andheri or some other place?

Vijay: And wade through the floods? Are you nuts? We lost my sister-in-law in last year’s flashfloods. My wife would rather leave me than going to that part of Mumbai.

Phatte: I read in the paper that the Municipal Corporation is going to take appropriate steps to lessen the effect of floods in Mumbai this year.

Vijay: Why would they? Bollywood even made a movie on it and raked in good money. From what I hear, the people at the Municipal Corporation were thrilled that the floods were portrayed so beautifully in that movie.

Phatte: I remember that movie. I had gone to watch it, but unfortunately couldn’t reach the hall on time.

Vijay: Too much rush, eh?

Phatte: Oh no, apparently some minister sahib decided to take a ride around the city that particular day. The Police had blocked all the major roads for his cavalcade of vehicles to pass. And off course, once the roads were opened you know the maniacal traffic in Mumbai; where cows have the right of way.

Vijay: You are right off course. Hey what happened about your son’s admission to ITI?

Phatte: I’m glad you asked! I have good news on that front. My son got through.

Vijay: Congratulations! You were having a harrowing time about it.

Phatte: I know. I had been hopping from office to office trying to sort out our caste certificate. When I went to the ITI admission office, they just looked at me once and said there was no job there for me! Can you believe it? I explained to him, I wasn’t there for a job but to get my son into the institute. So he just asked me which OBC I belong to. I tell you Vijay, if there’s one good thing these politicians have done, it’s this reservation system. My son can attend college now.

Vijay: Brilliant! What was his rank by the way?

Phatte: Oh, he was ranked 1,75,000. What about your son? He has grown up to be a fine young man. What plans do you have for him?

Vijay: He is going to stay with my brother Raj. Raj is the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and he thinks my son has just the right attitude to be a part of MNS. Besides you don’t really need any educational qualifications to join Politics in India.

Phatte: MNS? Isn’t that the party routing for Marathi Manoos?

Vijay: Yes.

Phatte: Gandhiji must have turned in his grave the day MNS came into existence. I mean, he tried to spread the message of brotherhood, tolerance and secularism all his life. Now, some politicians are trying to break our unity on the terms of who is Marathi and who’s not. It is so sad.

Vijay: But I completely agree with their propaganda. Initially our politicians told us to be a secular nation and welcome outsiders to be a part of our society. I mean what a truck load of nonsense is that? This is our city. Why should we let others come here? I like that guy leading MNS.

Phatte: But doesn’t he have a few criminal cases against him for inciting riots in the city?

Vijay: Stop being a hypocrite Phatte. These days every other politician has a criminal record in his name. Does that stop people from contesting elections? Off course not! How does it matter if they have a criminal record, if now they are stepping into the most noble of all services: helping the common man?

Phatte: You seriously think politicians are doing things to help us? Have you seen the bungalow of that MLA from Juhu? It’s right next to Amitabh Bachchan’s house. If he thought of spending even 1% of what went into making that house, I think our whole slum can be rebuilt.

Vijay: Well all the corruption and black money has to be converted to white money in some way right? What better than to make a palatial house in the richest suburb of Mumbai. I bet they have some hi-fi cars too.

Phatte: Yes, bullet proof cars for the politicians, whereas people bleed on the streets everytime there is a terror attack.

Vijay: Seriously what is the world coming to Phatte? I feel disappointed living in this nation which is ruled by such characters.

Phatte: Well, maybe we should elect the other party in the next elections.

A sudden commotion erupts. A lot of people start running hither thither.

Vijay: What is happening? What the hell is going on? Why so much of rush?

Iqbal: (shouting from the crowd): Don’t you know? Vinod Kambli has decided to join politics. He has come to the slums to meet us. I am so excited! A cricketer in our area!

Phatte: This is great! After movie stars now cricketers are also getting into politics. Isn’t there any eligibility criterion for politicians?

Vijay: His earnings from ads and reality shows must have dried up Phatte. And isn’t entering into politics a sure shot ticket to lottery?

Phatte: Come Vijay, lets see how well this politician lies and what unique promises he makes to us.

The Mayhem

Rear Pessanger Window

I have had a few very sad days for a last few weeks a few things been happening which have taken their toll , It has all made me wonder about a few things , I know one who has come to this world hast to go , today – tomorrow or some day .. basically we all have to leave .. One after the other it has to come to an end .. It all matter how we have lived that life . all those years on this planet.  I remember so many people who are no more in this world  but in my opinion had lived a great life , I mean I remember them so they are bound to have done a few good things .. Which again brings me to the point that Will there be anyone who remembers me .. Of will I die a death where people silently thank god .. Good riddance .. ( i know of One who will for sure.. inspite of going ga ga over the fact that I am supposedly the best friend forever.. Oh yes people I got enemies tooo and a lot of them )

We all live our life to the best we can but what happens when people die .. DO they die forever..  is it forever ?  Today 25th July was my dad’s death anniversary and I have been remembering a few things .. I know people say he is up there and he can see me .. but how do we know that ..

Some say that he is in a beautiful place and he is happier but again same question ?

A lot of these thoughts have been coming to my mind.. Do such questions trouble others too ..

I have been thinking a lot about him, I was sitting with a family friend yesterday and they were telling me so much about dad, Since her husband was one of his best friends even if we were related to each other .. Various emotions were going through at one stage I felt like crying but I did not, That reminds me I have not cried at all since Dad has passed away.. I have had tears swelled but I cant remember them falling..  .. Dont know why .. AM I THICK SKINNED or as they say COLD HEARTED or have a iron heart that doesnot feel sadness .. I dont know ..

What is it being sad.. what is it.. how do you feel sad..

I know I started this article with saying I have had a few sad days , But truthfully ahhhhhhhhh I don’t know , I have not been sad , Its been normal days , I have worked , worked and workeddddd .. Now I am thinking if I should be posting this article at all as I myself can’t make any sense out of it ..

At work its been the same Politics at its best, people back biting each other the so-called GOOD mates for the sake of showing off , or being in good books of seniors suddenly try the best they can to jeopardise you… sometimes I hate myself for being the way I am  good or bad I don’t know..  but then we can’t please everyone can we.. Is it crime these days to think the way I think ..

for me family and friends are sacred  friendship isn’t empty word  it  implies responsibilities , obligations  respect for each other ..

I know that  whatever happens I will always respect my friends, its up to them if they wanna do that towards me or not 🙂

DISCLAIMER:-This Article has some very nasty truths .. so please read it at your own risk.. Truth is always hard to digest. These are my thoughts or what i have seen and heard ..

After my last post on what happened with a girl I know, I have some further Shocking incidents to discuss here.

When I was studying in school as usual we had our female class mates with us, yes we had our crushes and emotions for a few of them in the school which is common , One of the girls in the class called me bhaiya or Veerji.. and that was it since that day onwards we have talked to each other as brother and sister, I am sure there are hundreds and thousands who have had that experience and do believe in the relation like that.

BUT nowadays a new situation is cropping up, which is quiet mind-blowing and shocking too, the hunger to come abroad, reach foreign shores is so bad in our country that people will do anything to get out, I know most of the people will say it’s not like that anymore. No one wants to come abroad the young generation is not looking to go abroad but to be blunt It is a myth. What all the so-called Educated, the future of the nation would do to come abroad.

Here area few scenarios..

1. A girl/boy  takes an exam to get admission in a University or college in UK, they have been taking tuitions to pass this exam to get a good band, They pass it and then apply for a visa to come to this county.. Visa is again a lottery .. Lets suppose that “A” gets the visa (I don’t know what type of visa etc) , but lets assume they get 3 or 4 years visa.  Money has been spent on tuition, staying in a city for all that time, visa fees, visiting Delhi or whenever the consulate is .. all this adds up to a good amount, BUT mission accomplished got the Visa…

The scheme starts now.. “A” ‘s parents are now on a look out for a partner for their child, OH YES.. the reason being that since “A” can come abroad he can apply for a visa for a dependant which can be a husband-wife-partner .. So the BOLI the Auction starts .. the highest bidder who can pay .. for all that money spent, plus the college fees to be given , the travel arrangements etc etc and a PROFIT on top of it is required, well you can well imagine how much money exchanges hands.. it goes in lakhs..

This is the new trend which has come up you want to come abroad find a person who has got a visa then apply as a partner and voila you  can come to the foreign shores, we the indian’s are exploiting this rule to the fullest, sometimes to prove they are partners a sham marriage takes place…  Sham marriages is another big fiddle these days.  In our society it’s still ok for a boy but the girls too don’t mind these days, they get the money , and then come here and have to live like partners here to …

This is becoming quiet common in south india and Punjab since most of the students who are coming are from these areas…

2. This is Much more shocking a boy marries a girl from abroad or vice versa , come to the country stay for as long with their mutual partner , then I think its 2 years or maybe 5 years they apply for the citizenship , which they usually get because all these years they have been golden boys/girls in the family, suddenly when that Red passport comes in hand they change to their true colours .. Bang comes the papers to file for a divorce out of the blue.. next thing is they have a girl friend or boy friend back in india who now comes over as the new partner  🙂

Hold on One more scheme is there

3. If you have a relative settled abroad doesn’t matter who it is , if they have a permanent residency then ask them to divorce their partners , you have a sham marriage with them .. you can come abroad .. then off course you change partners again  once all settles down .. a LOT of money exchanges hands this way ..

Situation is so bad that brothers and sisters are getting to this SHAM marriage …  when I started writing this article this is what i wanted to write on but it’s too disgusting .. Reading the above few scenarios I am sure you all are intelligent enough to know what i would have said .. YES  there have been such cases, tooo. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT.. what  people can do to come abroad , that’s why I laugh sometimes when people say oh the young generation is not interested … One needs to see the Ques at Delhi or other consulates..  We as indians have this habit of not seeing the reality and hushing up matters this is one of them..

Someone said to me its only a small number .. YES ITS A SMALL NUMBER BECAUSE THERE IS ONLY SO MANY APPLICATIONS THAT CAN BE PROCESSED IN A DAY AT THE CONSULATES…  if it is open 24 hours the line will be longer …

I had an Indian passport with permanent residency, here when you apply for a british passport legally you are supposed to surrender your old passport ..  I was offered 10 lakh plus rupees if I could sell my passport to a friend in Chennai, He was so desperate to come over. I mean how will the name BIKRAMJIT go with a south Indian face,  no disrespect to him, but his answer was that its his problem, Me being an idiot surrendered my passport the day i got my british one, I should have kept it easy money that was…

The reason I brought this up I have a family friend here who are happily married and recently got their permanent stay here, Look how news travels and how the minds of people work, this was on 28th or 29th of April ..  and last week someone approached me from India a friend of a friend of a friend … 🙂 … that I should go and talk to this couple if they are interested in making some money and this was the idea.. 25 Lakh each 🙂

Me being me called this friend who had given my number and blasted him off , now I have lost a friend too.. I have not told the couple here lest they stop talking to me too,  the best part is the person who phoned me is cousin of the girl.

Update:- This post is Tangy tuesday Pick by Blogadda.. Thanks

Zara Dholiya Dhol ute Daga lain oye
Hath rakh kan ute boli tun pain oye
Ful khidiya sab de man bhaunda
PUNJAB MERA RAHE WASDA
(Hey the man with the DHOL, beat it , and sing the song, that as a flower is loved my everyone same way let my PUNJAB be loved to , let is live forever)

I remember the time when Punjab the state was one of the most rich state, it was supposedly the state which fed the whole of the country .. But over the years things have changed drastically.. first the terrorism and now the polictical Actually hold on let me rephrase that

The state of punjab was always given a Step motherly treatment by the centre govt. I am sure no one can deny that.. look what that has done to this state.. then the terrorism happen which took us so many years behind , A whole generation of punjabi youth was finished , disintegrated in those years.. the after math of that we are still feeling and some of us are living the horror.

The Government these days is only busy in filling there own coffers, no one has time for that man, The man who gets up early morning no matter what the weather is like rainy, chilly, hot … He gets up to go and tend to his farmland, his animals.. a Typical day in the life of a farmer .. I know because i have done it .. been there ..worn the tee 🙂

Get up at the first light of about 4:30/5 in morning , It a different story that if you did not get up the village Gurudwara’s granthi made sure you get up when he started with his daily routine on the Speakers..
Go to the fields to take a round , by the time you got back the ladies in the house had the fire burning, stoves ready .. getting the food ready .. Breakfast would be a Big Mug full of Lassi, with Paranthas… and off to fields .. Tilling the land, sowing the seeds, watering the fields , etc etc a non stop day of work .. work and more work.. with little respite from weather.. sun shinging hard and mighty .. or the winter chill going right inside to the bones .. Feet went numb when watering the fields in the middle of the night …

But all that was worth  the hardship when the first green leaf appeared from the soil .. but that also meant the problems start not one but so many of them …

Typically it is like ,

kadi motor sad gayi
kadi bor khad gaya
kadi paindaa soka
kadi sab kuch had gaya
Meaning that either the Motor to the tube well burnt cause of the fluctuations in electricity, you get that fixed then there would be a problem with the tubewell itself.. Sometimes the water level would go down , with no water or there was  draught like situation… OR it would rain so much that there is excess of water  and we get floods…
The farmer has no other way then go and get a loan from the bank, and hope that next season things will be different, with a bumper crop he can get rid of the loan, and earn some money.. the whole life cycle starts all over again .. but its the same outcome and this time

kishtaan bank diyaan tut gayina
saari duniya da anndata
oh saunda bhukha bhana

And now the he has not been able to pay the installment also… So now he has has no crop, plus a defaulter with the bank.. he sleeps hungry the one who feeds the whole nation..

jatt di joon buri
tadap tadap mar jana
ridak ridak mar jana

Farmers have a bad life, they are going to die one day struggling..
This is the sad story of our farmers , if all goes well then the natural calamities takes over, diseases to the crops

paigi narme nu sundi
ganaa sukiya
das hun ki kariye
munda wehla kudiyaan jawaan hoiyaan
kehde khoohe dub ke maariye
mar mar jiun naalo taan changa hai iko din mar jana

Cotton (narma) has been attacked by american worm, sugarcane(ganna) has dried .. What can he do ..
His son is jobless, no work .. and daughters(kudiyaan) are grown now. they have to be married soon .. Which well can he throw himself down to die, thats why they think that its better to die then live like this every day …
jatt di joon buri
tadap tadap mar jana
ridak ridak mar jana
What is going to happen to our farmers(jatt), not just in punjab but everywhere its the same story .. We who live in the cities take everything for granted, do we sit for once and think about those who are actually providing for us, We go to a shop and buy the stuff with our money, the money which we MAY have earned after working hard.. but just imagine the plight of that farmer who is working so much harder then us, so we can eat, Yet he does not get what is due to them
Why dont we have the guts to ask the question, we are arguing over stupid things , spending hours on useless things, Wake up people All this development that we keep barking about, is not good if the backbone of our country is broken and FARMERS are those backbone of our great nation… we need to ask this question
Sadiyan Fasllan Da
Kahto Launde Mul Vayapari

We do all the work, get the grain to the market then why does someone else put a price tag on our work.

Lets tell the Government

fasallan te sapriyaan de pithan te pump tikke ne
is waari holi te patan nahin kine jatt vike ne
hathyar hi sute haje chalaune nahin aseen bhule
raflaan diyan nalaan de rakhe ne muh haje tak khule
jit ke ja waddi hai kithe thagan di toli

(We carry the weight of the pumps holding the fertilisers and sprays on our backs..
This holi season god knows how many more farmers have sold themselves
We might have thrown our WEAPONS (hathyaar).. But we have not forgotten how to use(chalauna) them
We have kept the mouth of our RIFLES (raflaan) open
Where do these THUGS go after winning the elections)

But what can I say when we ourself have cultivated these thorns in our life and given them permission to bleed us, kill us  for the next five year…

All lyrics are taken from songs sung by punjabi singh Babbu Mann..

The last time i visited my village we had a game of cricket at 5am in morning some pics..
