I have been trying to book some tickets on-line recently  and realized that it is becoming a real challenge to book tickets on-line or maybe its my age :). People say that on-line booking is very easy , it also is the new trend but there are some aspects of on-line booking I just don’t understand..

The first being What is this new thing you have to do.. Type a PHRASE or what they Call CAPTCHA , it’s like a challenge or  some sort of literacy test that you have to go through before you can actually go on to book your ticket, Look at the pictures and select a few with common themes, or a collection of letters hiding behind each other, as if we are playing hide and seek game. ..

So you have to copy that word in a new text box exactly same, you copy it – you press the OK button – it comes back saying NO .. they don’t match.. TRY AGAIN..  someone like me gets stuck on that page for half an hour , so much waste of time for a damn ticket which is supposed to be on-line the fastest mode of booking tickets.

What gets me more is when it comes up with all these options or Suggestions , especially with a slogan People who bought this also searched for this etc etc, I mean how does it matter to me what people searched on, none of my business. All I want to do is book or buy a product on-line, Why do I need to know about other stuff, If I want than I will go to their website or search for them.

Another thing that makes me cross is the address page,  You have to fill in your name your surname your first line of address etc etc, the fun starts when you reach the last column that says COUNTRY..  You press the drop down button it has hundreds of countries (Have you noticed how many names there are)…

Since I live in England I have a real battle because you go down the line to find the country called England, it’s not there 🙂  I try for Britain or  great Britain that is also not there , I have to scroll down to the bottom to find united kingdom, Why do I need to do that I mean is it not common sense that when I am logging into a website which has a web-address of lets say ABCDEFG.co.uk in the end, then that .co.uk is a BIG HINT to tell that there is a high chance of me living in UK, so why is that box not auto populated with UNITED KINGDOM, and if I have to change , I can always press that drop down button and change.

The other day I did a search for cinemas in Leicesterit brought me list of cinemas in Leicester, I isolated to a cinema near me Leicester again when I tried booking and putting the address the country drop-down had every country , NOW tell me who in their SANE mind will be coming from  INDIA or Afghanistan to watch a movie in Leicester surely the country in the list should be the local country, I mean I have selected a local cinema in Leicester which is in England and the first country that comes is Angola or Afghanistan so who is sitting in Angola early in the morning and saying  “hmmmmmmmmm  I’m thinking… I am going to watch Kong Skull Island in Leicester today, because I  am so sick of my local multiplex cinemas.. I will go and watch a movie in Leicester and this is for an afternoon show today at 2:30 p.m. Can anyone get there from Angola for 2:30 p.m. Show today ”

Anyway so once you put your address , next thing you have to do is put your e-mail address on the booking form not once but TWICE.. as they want you to confirm the e-mail address that I have typed … HELLLO I know what my e-mail address is, I’ve been using it for the last 15 years why are you testing me on my own e-mail address..

You have not asked me to confirm anything else, You did not ask me to confirm my name, my address but I know why they want you to confirm e-mail address.. More on that in the next post ..

I just wanted to post something its been so many days since I last posted .. How have you guys been

I was reading a post by Irfaan,  which reminded me of this post I had earlier written, The art of Letter writing is becoming a endangered species ..

************************************

I walked into my office , the lady at the reception was sitting.

“Good morning Liz”…
“Good morning Bikraaaaam”. (This is how they pronounce my name)…

As I walked past her, she called me back, “Bik, I have something for you,” she had a blue envelope in her hands, passed it on to me … it was one of AIRMAIL Aerogramme that we had in India to post abroad.

OH MY GOD… I was like in shock… it’s the last thing I was expecting… A Letter for me … I mean we are in 21st century… Letters are not heard of I mean the Hand-Written ones , Now is the time of Blogs, Emails, Scraps, and SMS… Tweets etc… Off liners… Chats… Facebook…

Believe me it was nostalgic moment, I opened the letter carefully, cause the gum is bad and you have to tear off the corners to open it, I did not want to spoil anything. The letter was from my youngest MAASI (mum’s sister). All this time I had forgotten her Birthday was same as mine 11th November, and she wrote a letter to me. SHAME ON ME…

It was such a great feeling, I have so many handwritten letters from lots of people, When I had come to UK, I had made sure I brought all those with me, I am a sucker for such nostalgic stuff. I reached home and opened my box of Emotions-Memories-Warmth-Love, even when some of these have got torn and faded the memories they evoke are rich and resonant. So many memories came flooding back, not all Emails, SMS messages, Scraps invoke such emotions.

Oh all those lovely memories, I agree that world has changed and its time of technology, so many emails are sent every day, But imagine the Hand written letters, those carefully chosen words, written slowly, Imagine the thought going behind the words being written, then the time it took to reach, even though the news by that time was late yet it brought all that JOY, HAPINESS, WARMTH, TEAR, SORROW, everything with it and then you sat down to REPLY to it.

I remember I use to have a girl in my class, she later started to tie rakhi to me, immigrated to Australia after my 10th class, she use to write letters to me, every other week I use to get a letter, which I have till today all saved up, the fun things written in them, how she was finding living in Oz, what she was doing, the new people she was meeting, I knew her friends as she knew them there. I replied back to her telling her what is going on my side, my college days, what i was doing…

I also remember a few of my friends writing to me, The best are the letters that my dad wrote to me when I was in hostel , though they were basically STUDY HARD, STUDY and STUDY… yet thinking of them and seeing them brings back memories. My mother use to write to me in Punjabi, some of the words she used in the letters are sort of lost from the vocabulary now, the warmth – the sweetness- the love affection in it all.

These days all you get is a 160 character SMS or an occasional card especially on Birthdays, that too with 4 or maximum 5 words “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” “LOVE abcd”. I used to write long letters myself, I remember pestering people in the end of the letter why don’t they write more.

In School where I was studying SUNDAY use to be the Letter writing day, we were given the Blue inland letters , their use to be a special sitting, 10AM the bell would ring, all the students were to go to the dining hall, where the prefect would distribute the letter, while we wrote, then he would collect them and mark from his list who all have not given. It was compulsory to write, I remember I use to write 3 letters , To my parents , To my Grandparents Both sets.. Sometimes if I was in good mood write to other relatives, the letters were posted every Monday morning, so by the next week the wait started for the reply.

Lunch was at 1:30Pm, after lunch around 2pm all of us use to rush to the helper (BidhiChand was his name), he would have the letters that had come to us, he would distribute them, it was good moment if you got a letter , sad time if you did not, but nevertheless it was exciting.

Nowadays you start to write I am sure, hands start to ache, we are not used to writing anymore. It gives a very warm feeling when I check a handwritten letter from a close friend even after couple of years, the personal touch is missing in most of the communiqués that we send and receive these days. The Intimacy between the person who is writing and the one who has received the letter, sometimes you wonder that will the person you have written read the words as you have written, Will they understand the true meaning, the emotion behind those words.

If they don’t , then you write more to explain it all :), Wrote with more sincerity since it took longer to write, the heart to heart conversation that was etched on the paper, And the best thing was the beautiful stamps that were used.

Not all the emails or sms have the same magic as of those handwritten letters.

The following is the comment that I got via a email in response the post And so it ended – The year was 1931, by Sukhwinder singh,  I could not reply to the question he has asked so I put it up as a post , so that my dear readers can reply to this please .. Thank you.

“Hello Bikramjit

I have been following your blog for almost more than a year now. This is the first time I have written to you.  The reason is that Often while reading some of your posts I have gone through the comments section just following your post.  The recent post on Bhagat singh had about 60 odd comments till the time I was writing this email and other than a few people many have not even answered the question you have asked.

Dont you think this is the attitude of the indian population in reality, No one has time to read about such people who are dead, who cares for them.  They are DEAD END OF.  I also went back to see a post where you had put a picture of a Women’s butt so many replied there.  Here you have written about a person who has helped us to get our freedom, Thats it,  Dont you think this is the mentality of indian people the BUTT is more inviting than reading about someone who is the reason why every indian now breathes in free air. Has a country to call his own…

A butt got more, than a post that talks of patriotism.

To answer you questions ..

jisme na nijh gaurav  na nijh desh ka abhiman hai woh nar nahin hai mritak hai nira Passu ke samaan hai..

You can see for yourself how much ABHIMAN an indian has in his own country , Sidhu is right on an average each indian is nothing but DEAD an ANIMAL

When will the time come when we will all stand up together and do something , or have we gotten so shameless that we are not dreading the day when we will also reach where these martyrs are now looking down upon us, what will we say to them when they ask us “IS this why they gave their lives”..  HOW – WHAT will we say to them ….

Yes we have become shameless.. YOU ARE WRONG BIKRAM, to say that we will also reach where these martyrs are , NO SIR these martyrs are somewhere , a special place where Waheguru is taking care of them, WE will never be there as we have made our nation a hell hole.. and so to HELL we all shall go ..

When will the time come when indians will start to think that Time has come to re-sow the guns in our fields.. as the little Bhagat singh did ..   That will never come sir.. as indians are too biased the moment one person thinks of sowing a gun in the field they will grass you , so they are in the good books of the authorities. or worse still use that Gun to kill you so they can take over what you own.

Not just the netas majority of the indians also wake up on 23rd to know someone was hanged, majority say WHO BHAGAT SINGH and I doubt if anyone remember Sukhdev or Rajguru.. if people dont know about Bhagat singh what all will they know of the other two Desh bhagats.
14th february went by, majority of us celebrated it as the day of love, but there was history made on this day especially for us indians, let me ask a question how many can remember what it was that happened , this day years back..  and please no googling.. no shame in accepting if you dont know, I did not know about it myself sadly, But I wont forget it again that is for sure

I am sorry here Bikram, But reading your replies to the comments I think you have got it wrong, the judgement was delivered on  7 October 1930, sentencing Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru to death by hanging.  This judgement was of 300-pages saying that Bhagat Singh’s participation in the Saunders’ murder was the most serious and important fact proved against him and it was fully established by evidence.

On 14th february mercy appeal was filed before Irwin. An appeal was also sent to “desh ka sitara, Gandhi” by prisoners to intervene, Irvin had recorded the following lines on this

“While returning Gandhiji asked me if he could talk about the case of Bhagat Singh, because newspapers had come out with the news of his slated hanging on March 24th. It would be a very unfortunate day because on that day the new president of the Congress had to reach Karachi and there would be a lot of hot discussion. I explained to him that I had given a very careful thought to it but I did not find any basis to convince myself to commute the sentence. It appeared he found my reasoning weighty.”

This also adds to the conspiracy or the Truth how much Gandhi helped, Gandhi was more bothered of the karachi congress session which was to be held on 24th march the original day of hanging of the revolutionaries. No wonder he was shown black flags and boo’ed off in that session, He had no answer to the questions posed by the young indians.

We are a group who organise a Akhand Path  on the Death anniverasy of Shaheed Bhagat singh, Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru each year on 23rd march, It would be a pleasure if on your visits you could come over ,  We also have similar Paths for other revolutionaries.

I hope and wish more indians know about them. Hopefully with the likes of you who are very active in the blog world more and more people will know about the revolutionaries.  I liked your post on the Slut walk you are right people have nothing better to do then go on these rally’s when the people who actually go through the pain still dont know what it was all about, Where were all these people on the black day in history of India did any of them even remember that the Freedom they have to go on such rally’s is all because of young revolutionaries who gave their life for the air of freedom ?

Inquilab zindabad…

Regards

Sukhwinder Singh.
