Intolerance – New thing in town

Right well I was going to start this post with a disclaimer but .. what the hell ..  I am going write what I think, SO what do I say to this NEW fashion statements that are coming left right and centre in our “SHINING and DEVELOPING ” nation , India off course I mean. Every day there is some celebrity or some tom dick and harry who is either getting targeted for saying something the Public DO NOT WANT TO HEAR or for NOT SAYING what the public wants to hear.

End of the day this debate is basically what we want or NOT want to hear, and our hypocrisy has no boundaries , anything to make sure the public attention goes to STUPID or IDIOTIC issues rather than the ones that every INDIAN individual should pay attention to.

Recent melodrama or the fashion statement that is going around is brick bashing of Amir Khan, my view on the whole episode is that the people who are shouting hoarse and asking him to leave the country, making statements how he earns money in India and how his movie PK makes fun of “HINDU” gods and yet was a super hit movie.. right WELL to those people shouting obscenities at  Amir Khan, well they are just proving his point, SAD BUT TRUE.  Going on about one film what about films like RANG DE BASANTI, What about shows like Satayamev Jayate..  or the Movie Sarfarosh , or is it because Amir in Sarfarosh is bashing a Muslim and making those PRO HINDU patriotic dialogues it is ok ..  just because PK is thought to be making fun of HINDU god it suddenly is talked about. – Can anyone see the Pattern of pick and choose ..

All those people where were you when a man was Killed because it was “THOUGHT” he had beef, Many of the people in the mob who killed this man belonged to ONE religion , also I can vouch many of them also EAT MEAT, if not all then at least a handful, they eat MEAT. So HOW is it OK to eat one animal and NOT The other one.

All those people where were you when a young girl was molested on the road of GUWAHATI. ( now I hope the reason for not helping the girl was NOT because she was of one religion)

All those people where were you when a young girl got raped in DELHI.

So what is wrong in saying that Intolerance is growing up  IT DEFINITELY IS.

Moreover he says that his wife feels that way, whats wrong JUST BECAUSE HE IS A MUSLIM he is being targeted like that , The statement is actually a STRONG voice because If I have read it correctly ..

Mr. Khan told an audience that his wife, Kiran Rao, had suggested moving from the country.

“That’s a disastrous and very big statement for Kiran to make to me,” Mr. Khan said. “She fears for her child, she fears what this atmosphere around us will be, she feels scared to open the newspapers everyday.”

KIRAN RAO is a HINDU.. so a hindu is not feeling safe in the country , that is much more shameful than a Muslim saying and YET all the people who have gone on bashing Amir khan , have they even considered for ONE SECOND what that statement means. It puts me at SHAME, that a hindu is saying she is not safe , our country is HINDU DOMINATED..  instead like it always happens we are good at deviating from a core point and go on tangents, because we can target a MUSLIM now, yet this whole drama is on the question of  TOLERANCE.

HECK I don’t feel SAFE when I come to visit my country, does that mean I am a traitor. I feel scared opening the on-line news papers I read every day to know about my country.

There are Millions of issues that need to be looked at , people don’t have DRINKING WATER in rural india, some have to walk hours to get fresh water (This they have to do EVERYDAY), so the people who are WASTING time and energy on harping over what AMIR KHAN said , PLEASE do something else , pick a WATER BOTTLE to give a drink to person who has to walk every day for WATER.

There are Millions who do not have a ROOF over their head, THINK about them and NOT WHAT AMIR KHAN SAID or DID, spend this rage , time  on doing for those who are needy.

There are Millions who are dieing of HUNGER Go and FEED that many people as many tweets or statements you have made over one person’s statement, Imagine the Time that has been wasted over ONE PERSON’s STATEMENT,  if only that much time was spent in the good of people maybe JUST MAYBE we will become a bit more TOLERANT.

I had a smile when I was reading a statement by SHIV SENA that the actor is speaking the language of Treachery, 🙂 and what language do you speak sir when you say Maharashtra is for Maharashtrians, a few years back were you not the same who wanted the people migrating to Mumbai from other STATES OF INDIA, to leave the CITY.  That I beleive is the Language of SOLIDARITY.  TOUCHE’

I think the common man is too busy to make two ends meet, to make sure that there is roof over the head, that there is a bread on the table for his kids, I doubt if he has time for such idiocy, its only the so called EDUCATED, PATRIOTS etc etc who have all the free time for wasting time over a NON consequential statement. Do you think any-one of these characters would have made so much uproar if it was Not AMIR KHAN who made the statement.

Has anyone ever gone and seen the QUEUES outside foreign embassies in India, People QUEUE up to get that visa as early as 4am in morning,  Millions if given a chance to leave WILL LEAVE, majority of those who are shouting Hoarse themselves would love to leave India and settle abroad,  There are millions who probably say the same statement, who probably go through hell each day trying to make a living, yet NO ONE is interested in those poor.

A senior Leader in Indian Govt. (Giriraj Singh)  openly said that “Those opposing Narendra Modi are looking at Pakistan, and such people will have place in Pakistan and not in India,” at a  poll meeting at Mohanpur Haat Maidan near the temple town Deogarh, I guess the recent election in Bihar  showed him what a common man thinks, hopefully he will learn.   So those who take to TWITTER and go on a Rally at every statement WHERE ARE YOU PEOPLE.  how come no outrage on the above statement.

What does that point to me it only shows that Not only are we getting more intolerant we ARE BECOMING CHOOSY INTOLERANT, we do so when it SUITS US.

Here is a Prayer that our literary master wrote , Rabindranath Tagore,  BUT hey before you read it , please let me make myself CLEAR , this was written by a person of a DIFFERENT RELIGION than MINE..

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, Where knowledge is free, Where the world has not been broken up into fragments, by narrow domestic walls, Where words come out from the depth of truth, Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection, Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way, Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit, Where the mind is led forward by thee, Into ever-widening thought and action, Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.

Indeed for the sake of GOD , which ever one it is you believe in  WAKE UP.

On one of my posts I got the following comment

“Bikram, I sometimes wonder if I’ve punished my kid by bringing him into such a cruel world. I want him to have a beautiful life, but one can only be horrified imagining what kind of future this world is going to have. Whatever happened to ‘live and let live’!”..

HOW TRUE the statement is what sort of world are we leaving , or bringing them into..  Although I also feel that the above statement is what I have to SAY and what KIRAN RAO said above, but that she is married to AMIR KHAN 🙂

I think the time is to UNITE not further divide the nation , especially after what we have seen happen in PARIS, we should get together irrespective of color-caste-creed-religion Anything, and Stop going on and on .. on such silly issues..

Brilliant post! I was ranting the same way all of last week but then I finally gave up. Because people here are so hell bent on proving that they’re tolerant by doing the most intolerant of acts.

  3. Bikram, I feel that Aamir Khan could have avoided making that statement in the media (or public forum), because such statements can be interpreted and used in different ways. At the same time all different groups need not have hounded him like this and shown more tolerance.

    • Bikramjit says:

Hmmmmm well he could have avoided But he was only saying what many people are saying , moreover he said its his WIFE. the groups who hounded him did so because AAmir is a MUSLIM, and that is not right.. politicians say so much wrong and much worse , they actually say it Directly why dont the same groups hound these politicians who we know are making our country go dwon the drain.

      • True Bikramjit..it is that being a public figure/ celebrity, one has that added responsibility of the impact that his/her speech might have. The statement made by a celebrity in the media has the potential of being misused by certain groups to brainwash people into believing that a particular sect is unsafe in the country.
Groups don’t hound the politicians because the politicians sustain them. It is simple economics at work.

    Hypocrisy has reached its crescendo!

True.. it is because if they discuss those points it will show how hypocrite they are .. so they take the easy way out and make an uproar over non issues … works ok for them especially for our politicians.

Very well said bikram , we also pained to see so many irresponsible statements coming from all kind of people but bikram these guys does not represent the whole nation, i strongly feel that it is deliberate attempt to divert attention of common people , to keep their vote bank together weather BJP or cong or regional parties , these politicians do not care about the common man or economic development, they are only concerned about next elections, these debates and all the noises will increase in coming time because they feel polarisation of voters will benefit them , india is tolerant and will remain tolerant but the definition will keep on changes time to time to the suitability of these politicians, till the time people will stop voting according to their caste creed religion or region, till then we as common people will keep suffering

It is wonderful to read your writing after a while Bikram. As strong and as emotionally intense and to the point as ever. Yeah.. there are many more important issues that never get the attention they deserve from people. I think a lot of people are just looking for excuses to go after somebody without even knowing or bothering to know what actually happened or was said. And I don’t understand why people are so angry in Facebook and Twitter.

I see a lot of hypocrites here. They are ok as long as people agree with their ideals, once they are found to have a different opinion on things, they are most definitely wrong. Only people who are secure and confident about themselves will respect others’ opinion even if they do not necessarily agree with it.

Public as it were has a very short memory.. let’s say most of the public! so as you rightly said, they just go with whatever is in motion at that time and forget what the same folks did a while ago, ten years ago, two decades ago.. like, say for instance a blog post.. rarely do people read beyond a particular post, go through the links or sit to read all the posts, and make connections.. !

quoting somebody out of context and just relaying one side of an argument, both are very dangerous and far reaching acts that creates devastating effects. People who listen to it lose out on the real deal.. ! Even the listeners should take everything they read or hear with a pinch of salt, be responsible enough to go in search of the fuller picture

I don’t read the newspaper or follow any news. I am actually resentful that still some news filters in indirectly via Facebook. And the reason is the shame, it makes me shudder to read those news items and realize what kind of a world we are living in. I have thought about unfollowing all my Indian friends and family on FB so as to avoid these news items and news commentaries. The same happens from other sources but understandably, news from home disturbs me the most. Anyway, very nice article and very sensible. I am going to share it on my Facebook if you don’t mind. I neither support congress nor BJP.
In fact, not able to support any Indian political party.

But this entire media generated debate about “tolerance”
( or for that matter “intolerance” ) looks like a comedy of
errors. On top of that we have a section of our
    intelligentsia returning awards.

Agreed that it is their democratic right ( to return) but how
many of them exercised their democratic rights when
thousands ( not one or two ) of innocent sikh youths, women,
children, were massacred in broad day light ( not late night )
and that too in the capital city of Delhi ( not in any remote area ) ?

Not hundreds, not thousands but many lakhs ( YES LAKHS !! ) of
hindhu and sikhs have been physically thrown out of J &K forever.

How many awards were returned ?

Or may be massacre, brutal murders and physically dispossessing
a person ( in this case lakhs ) of his/her birthplace are not covered
    in our media generated “intolerance”.
