Bikramism’s Some questions :) .. part 1

I know  I know the ISM’S are supposed to be humourous and all .. but then I am not that clever , all i have is some questions that I would like to ask and hopefully get some witty answers that will make other laugh too ..

So starting with the series here , I have other things to ask too .. the first few questions .. Tadaaaa

1. Why do supermarkets make the sick, walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

you enter a super market the first counter all the tobacco.. Oh I guess they want people to buy it and then have a nice little stroll to the pharmacy while have that Smoke .. ahh Bliss .

2. Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

🙂

3. Why do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.  ?

Yeah you need to visit the local Halifax building society or Barclay’s the pens are chained to the desk 🙂  just in case someone wants to nick the PRECIOUS pens.

4. Why do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage.

(when was the last time you went to your garage, I mean without the precious CAR 🙂 , it is packed with stuff that we have not used for months and probably will never use again,  Its called Hoarding I know but still ..

The old study table
The broken chair
That piece of old carpet that you thought you will use as door mat
That old crockery stuff that someone gave you , which you never liked so had it stored in the Garage..
The old broken bicycle…
The old fish tank which you have been waiting to clean and fill up ready to be used.. Oh that was since year 2007..
The old fridge you kept for emergency use when you bought the new one ..
and so on..  )

  1. The diet coke question is a very valid one and you (especially you) should not shrug it off with a smile 🙂

C’mon, put an action plan – Week 1 – _________ calories avoided; Week 2 – _________ calories avoided. When you later on put a graph of all these calories, they should be a rising curve. Maybe you can start by eating (only) fruits / vegetables in the nights? 🙂

People go to super market to buy certain things. Medicine and stuff like that are not impulse buy items, whereas the smaller item near the entrance which is near the cash counter. People will buy them to round off, or just because its there. Some people feel good about shopping that they just cant resist a few chocolates. Its been researched and they put those items there to make us buy it. 🙂
Cheeseburger and diet coke: not really a logical response, but then most people aren’t logical. There is always a conflict inside everyone.
People going inside vault will be noticed easily, and there are adequate protection for most theft. That doesn’t mean its foolproof. On the other hand, small items like pen won’t be noticed, but replacing them will be a big head ache and who would want to place a security camera to monitor a pen?
As you said, keeping old stuff is hoarding, but more than that, putting them away in a garage is like keeping it out of the way. Some people will clean them out once in a while, and the other will forget about it and their grandkids will sell it as antiques. You car on the other hand is used everyday.

Haha, I loved the “Diet Coke” one the most! Seriously, in today’s “diet” conscious world people would eat a salad, ya sure they would, but along with a cheesy and creamy chicken dressing! We all have become such huge show off dummies, that we are tending to lose the earthiness behind, when in the olden times, eating an oiled chapatti (parantha) too was considered healthy and nourishing!

All of the question were really funny, looking forward for more in part 2! 🙂

  22. I guess the diet coke makes up for all the calories, it’s like having tea without sugar with a samosa. It’s called trying 😀

And that pen is more likely to disappear just when needed, not because someone wants to steal it, but because we are all so used to signing and then keeping what we used for signing back into our pickets/bags 🙂

The tobacco and medicine case is really wrong and affects the customers, very wrong!!

  34. My era says:

#1. Tobacco and chocolates are things that people buy on impulse and often tend to try to avoid (like people trying to quit and diet conscious people). So to tempt those people and earn the profits selling these products with immense margin of profit they are placed at a point very close to the pay counter. where you don’t get much time to think, analyse and wait till you pay. They are earning by tempting us and targeting our weakness for these products.

#2.It’s scientifically proven that the high acidity of diet drinks goes well (taste-wise) with the fat in cheese and high salt in those fries. Although most people make that choice to try to equal the extra calories of the double cheese burger buy in reality high salt + fat + high acid are totally absorbed and are a fatal combo. Rather go with ordinary coke and enjoy the calories to the fullest 😉

#3 taking along the pen is a common practice most of us do, so to avoid the staff from bothering to ask people to return the pen, they fasten them up as a quick reminder to not take them along, as far the vault safety, there are already many big measures taken and laws support those measures so no-one will dare getting in trouble messing up with those 😉

#4.The mentality that the stuff not in use will be useful someday makes us keep it from throwing it away. Putting it in the garage keeps us happy that it’s out of the house (though not in reality). As far the car it’s in use day in and day out with a heavy insurance to pay for it’s safety 😀

Superb questions there…waiting for the next round 😀

    2. So that they can fool themselves into believing they are still following a ‘diet’!

  40. I’m diabetic so diet coke works best for me. But another reason why I order it with junk food is because of the taste. Nothing else matches uPto it for me and I don’t drink anything else. It’s diet coke or nothing. If I’m visiting and they don’t have it I won’t drink anything else they have to offer. I’m not a tea or coffee drinker either. In my circle most only drink it for the taste.

As for the garage thing, most cars come with alarms so use the garage for storage because these days the houses Are built too small.

My era…has answered your questions beautifully and logically. I always throw / give away old items so fast and later regret it when I realize I could have used it for some purpose. If I am giving away, I feel happy since some one is benefiting from it..

On the contrary my better half keeps all old things…things which we might never use in this life like old outdated technical books, old clothes to give to poor back home ( we are always over weight while traveling so we never get chance to take it home…), old mixie, fridge (that I gave away when he was not around…lol..) ..etc..etc…

But I feel we are a good mix, if he had a wife just like him, the house would have been full of clutter and if he was just like me, we would not be having many of the things we have at home now…

(a)Coming back with a better answer for the question about coke, very few people know that DIET coke is in fact bad for health… diet coke, and all other sugar supplements that are advertised as ‘healthy’, including Sugar Free etc. have ingredients such as aspartame and saccharin that have been linked to depression. When these artificial sweeteners had flooded the markets some years ago, they were not well-researched and were touted to be healthy without much basis. But as years have passed by, starkly shocking facts have come to the fore, linking depression and other anxiety related disorders to the use of artificial sweeteners.
Worse is the fact that today’s youth, in the name of being cautious, are switching to Sugar Free and other such ‘diet-blahs’ thinking it will help protect them from diabetes etc.
    For more shocks: http://www.natural-health-information-centre.com/aspartame-lawsuits.html

    (b) Why tobacco is sold at easy reach? It’s all about money. Tobacco and cigarettes are habit-forming and good selling products which people buy as a stock-on product and not just when required. Pathetic. Gross. But that’s how supermarkets unfortunately direct sales.

    (c) Garage – good place to mimic a store house. The meaning of a garage has been lost, due to modern life styles and rush rush routines.. maybe parking a car in the garage is too much of a waste of time??? Instead.. use the space to store unwanted and ‘hoarded’ stuff.

BTW you should see the things I hoard.. one might go crazy.. i have a suitcase back home that contains empty shampoo bottles, little boxes and trinkets in which i would store my beads and craft stuff.

    (d) That’s all.. b-byeee 🙂 (There is no tax for using up ur blog space, right, Mr. B?? 😛 )

I religiously cut down on the sugar intake, but on an aver I consume 4-6 pieces of chocolates/day. I still claim to be on an austere diet!

I too had to resort to chaining the pen because my staff, after signing the attendance register, walk off with the pen though absent-mindedly. They forget two things: 1. They came in ‘penless’, 2. They are going out with a pen!

    Hi Bikram,

Being a good friend, I don’t want you to keep scratching your head, so here are the answers.

    1. Why do supermarkets make the sick, walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
    A. If you have to work too hard for the temptation you might decide to drop it, hence cigarettes should be out front where you are tempted to buy them. Medicine you will HAVE to buy even if they made you walk down to the basement. It’s about money, not about customer’s convenience.

    2. Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
    A. Simple. Diet Coke tastes better.

    3. Why do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters. ?
    A. Because money and gold in the vault is insured, the pens are not. Think how silly a banker will look filing a police report for a 20p pen having been stolen.

    4. Why do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage.
    A. Because we want to show off our car to the neighbours and hide the junk.

If you have more..bring them on!

not sure of the taste of diet coke i find it bland …

I know .. lodging a FIr for a few pens and that too he would have to ask a minister or someone high up ki SIFARISH to get it lodged .. wont be worth it so better idea , chain the pens 🙂

if i have more – I got pelnty more will put them up sooon 🙂
