Archive for January, 2011

I have been living in the UK for quite a few years now, over the years I have seen a lot of changes take place both with the attitude of the people living here and those who want to come abroad. I am sure a few of you reading will disagree with me over the issue that loads of people are doing their utmost legal, illegal or whatever means to get out of India, be it educated , uneducated or whosoever. You find all sorts of people spending all their life savings to get out of the country. I am not going to argue or start writing here about the reasons why they are doing so, cause there are umpteen reasons and NO these people are not traitors or otherwise that they are leaving the country.

Anyway the reason for this note is the terrible conditions of our people out here , I did write a note earlier too the living conditions and work conditions being faced by majority of the people coming, I had told the story of my cousins who have come over, well let’s say it does not look very good for them. One of my cousins did get a job as FARM HELP, now then I have to have a little laugh here, the reason why he came to this country was to get away from working on the farm back home, they have land and all but NA can’t do that, perfectly happy to work in a farm as a HELP here cause he gets about 4 -5 pounds.. How sad is that…

But then none of the people back home want to listen to this, I go to the gurudwara sahib here and see all these young people coming in for food , god knows how they are managing the roof on their head, the situation of girls is really pathetic won’t go into details on that ..

Anyone who wants to get some work done at home can go and ask these people to work for them for anything between 10-20 pounds A DAY. Yes people you heard it right, A DAY and they will come and do anything for the day from gardening to cleaning to ironing… The reason I am saying is because I got asked by a lovely girl and a guy if I had work at home that they could do, I said no since I am rarely at home with my job and extra work, they started to plead explaining how good they are and how trustworthy they are .. I felt quiet bad but there is nothing that I could do for them other then politely refuse, but this is happening.

I was reading some news about the pathetic situation of people in London especially Southall, where a vast majority of population is Asian, no wonder it’s called Little India, It the same story as when India was known to be the GOLDEN BIRD, how every other nation came to plunder it of its prosperity, in the new era England was supposed to have  ‘streets paved with gold’ , but not anymore … one needs to see the ques in front of local gurudwaras to see the situation, one good thing though everyone is friendly no talk of being a hindu-muslim or sikh .. All are equal standing in the queue for the free langar.

People are sleeping in BINS, or even phone booths Yet the mass influx or the want to come to LONDON one of the richest cities in the world is increasing day by day, I also remember telling one of the friends in India about the situation, there reply was “I am jealous, I don’t want them to do good as I did”..

A few months back there was some sort of pity or what you call sympathy for these people who had come to pastures green, but over time I have seen this sympathy going down… as a few localites here feel that they dont have any compassion for these people as this is SELF-INFLICTED,

1. Why is there such an urge to come here…?

2. Why can’t people work as hard as they work here back home

3. Why can’t they work with same respect?

4. Why can’t you work in your OWN FIELD?

With the opening of borders for Euro union it has become very hard for outsiders to get a job, as the job has to be advertised to Europeans and then to others, with current economic scenarios, lots of jobs have been lost, thousands have been made redundant.

Please please All who read this, Please make sure before you or anyone you know who are contemplating to come abroad, you have the facts right, Do your spade work, find out if it is really any worthwhile coming all this way, Wasting the hard earned money of your parents or even putting them under Debt.

Everybody hopes to live in a better environment socially and economically. But it’s not possible for people to get that without struggle. It is the responsibility of the person to determine how much struggle is justified for the cause. The cause can’t be worth it, if the existence occurs merely from hand to mouth.

Nostalgic time , I am a very emotional person and since living in uk for so long I thought i would not get this emotional over a issue of being HOMESICK.. but today of all the days it was one of those days ..

I got up as usual 6am went around doing what i do everyday reached work around 9, the usual good mornings, gossip and all booted my machine and after replying to the work emails, getting the coffee sat down to read a blog.. That made me a bit teary..

I then went to my gmail to check my email, I had a link to a song , I rarely listen to songs at work, dont know why or what made me click the link and after the first 2 or 3 lines on the songs the waterworks started, my collegue was looking at me astonished whats happened a grown man with waterworks.. IT was one of those things where i was not crying but eyes were flooded, i could not stop .. the song went on and i cried …

I am sure you all are wondering what a horrible song it might have been, but beleive me if you listen to it you all will know what i mean..

Reminding me of my friends back home and around the world.. Anup, Babbar, cherry, ravi, vikram, ajay, ashwani ,Handle (bhupi), sandy, chander, Balli, gagan, .. that was a different time when we were in college .. nothing to worry about, having the fun of our lives studying in college well that was the idea to go and study rather it was fun time , no worry about the world, not afraid of anything or anyone  what all we did in those days …

I remember the famous dialogue of Rang de basanti movie that

Inside the gates of college We made life dance on our fingertips and on the other side of the college life has made us ,

and it is making us dance to its tunes .. and we are just dancing no matter what we do just cant stop..  all those big dreams We will do this , the time when 100 stood in front and we are just 10 the ability to say COME ON.. seems to be slowly going away Get tired so soon of the daily problems and tensions in life…

I so want to go back home GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Thursday Challenge –  BEST of 2010″ (Your favorite or best photo of 2010)

Well 2010 can be summed in three words Full of ____… but a few good things happened too.. later on .. Thanks to all my friends(blogosphere and otherwise)  for always caring for me and the love and affection you all have shown me ..

Uploading a pic of  a merit award one of the good things that happened , I have had to erase a few words cause of confidentiality…

Let me Show Off a Bit 🙂

I usually like to go for a run in the mornings or at least sometime during the day , It gets difficult to find time sometimes so i started to take my gym bag with me to office , So I could go for a jog in my lunch hour, that way i could get away from the office gossip and also do something healthy.

Over the christmas and new year holidays I have eaten so much with everyone celebrating the festivities ,  I have been feeling very guilty for not going to the gym and running regularly,  am sure a lot of people who are regular to gym will understand this guilty feeling.  Anyway Dont worry I am not going to go on about exercising lest you people think this is another of those lecturing posts..

I thought for a change write something about when  I go for a run some nice interesting things take place, you dont realise at the moment but later on they do make you smile ..

Like for example a few days back i was running along chug chug chug , when a idiot of a driver saw me , he drove past me , I have this big flourescent jacket which is bright orange even a blind man will see it … Anyway as I am running on the pavement this guy suddenly decided to swerve and get on to the pavement to park

And HOLA I could not stop myself THUD I banged into the back of his car …

What an Idiot , they have posters here Everywhere , almost every street , every corner  telling drivers to be mindful of bikers, pedesterians and all yet this plonker had to go ahead and do it , to makes matter worse he rolled down his window and usual “F__ hell Cant you see “.. he tells me , I did not know should I be laughing or crying or shouting at this idiot, I went up to him .. Saw this was a big bloke .. I thought here we go I am going to get thumped today .. but he would not get out of the car, jsut kept shouting from inside his car..

Man “ I am calling the police”-

Me ” go ahead, you the one who is parked ON the pavement not me ” …

He shut up cause i was right,  I shrugged myself and went on with the run.. to see he was following me .. I ignored him for sometime but each time I was to cross over the street he would accelerate his car, I really was thinking at this time that he is going to run me over,  I had to do something so I turned back and simply rushed to him…

He stopped the car,  I asked him what you doing..

he replied “I am following you to see where you live “.. He he he he I just laughed

“Good on you mate, I still got about 5 -6 miles to run… , Carry on following me “…  I guess it did not sound viable to him driving behind me , and spending all that money on fuel… So he gave up after about half a mile.. What an idiot he should have got out of his car and slapped me I could have done that if it was me, I mean anyone can see what happened and its not as if i made a dent on his car I AM NOT THAT FAT 🙂

Another interisting thing happened one time ,  I was running during my lunch time again on the pavement by the side of a canal, I saw a lady walking with a pram , the whole of the way was blocked by her … she probably heard me running and started to walk to one side which to me looked as if she was giving way.. She moved towards her Left ,

So i changed my direction to pass her from her right hand side .. I was jsut a few steps away from her , when she suddenly stopped and leaned over the pram , bringing her Arse outwards .. BAMMMMMM I banged into her … the silly woman was NOT giving me side, she was marely turning the pram, so she could lean over to have a look at her child ..

It was a embarassing moment .. with me all huffing and puffing, my hands on a ladies body  trying to stop myself from falling.. 🙂

Yeah I know the looks on people who saw it ….

Then once..  you know how people take there dogs for a walk and they  have such long leads.. that too so thin that if it is raining or snowing it gets difficult to see the lead .. well there was me running as I turned a corner there was this old man, on the left , on seeing me he sort of pulled his hand towards his chest.. WELL THAT AINT GOING TO WORK … cause the lead is so long …

Oh yessssssssss  i ran straight into it , at this moment i had not realised but I could hear a little doggy thump thump dragged behind me ..  the lead entangled in my legs .. yeah I can be cruel toooo

I have seen so many idiots on road, they will see you running along and then suddenly forget you are on the road and turn there car.. and then look at you as if its MY FAULT they ignored me … Ohhh bless them
