Thursday Challenge :- WRITING & WRITING TOOLS (Pens, Pencils, Notebooks, Journals, Calligraphy, Graffiti,…)
I still think these are the best tools for writing .. with the advent of computers , phones etc I think we are losing the art of writing…
Just a few days ago, I tweeted about how I find the act of picking up the paper and pen for writing as extremely labour intensive.
My hand and fingers have stopped bending the way I would like them and I cannot for the life of me, recognize my own handwriting.
This is definitely a challenge, Well said Bikram
hey Anita I was just about to say the same thing.
Honestly I can’t tell what I’ve written these days if I have to write something. I think I should now become a doctor
Love the post Bikram you always make us think. Its so true with all this technology we are letting some amazing arts just die.
I had a friend at school who had beautiful handwriting but she says she lost the knack to write like that. Such a shame.
@Aneesa yeah same here , you can see my handwriting is not that great I spent a lot of time writing the two words.
Thank you .. not jsut your friend a lot of people have lost the knack…
I still try ot write though , send some written letter back home …
yup they are! and bty Bikram your devotion with your page inspires me! you keep in touch with your page like on daily basis..mashALLAH..and stupid me! get away from it like for so many days:-(
Hmmm I agree.. They are indeed the best tools,..
THank you so much, Glad you find them the same way
I agree.. I still love writing on paper more than e-mails and texts. It has a charm of its own!
LOL you specially took this pic for Thursday Challenge! WOW!
Hey , thank you for coming over, good to see you here Welcome to this blog.
Well i could not think of anything better as in tools .. so i took one
Totally agree.. Anytime I would love to note it down on a piece of paper than on a notepad.exe . And I like the smell of brand new notebook
Yesssssssssssss same here .. the freshness of the paper is nice
Thank you
I have about 5 notebooks and one diary next to my laptop, all the time. I have three pen’s also. Yeah, notebook and pen are first love and I am just not able to leave them…
Destination Infinity
Do you wow.. I have some but it seems rarely use them now … typing has become easier i guess But I amke sure i do write my diary still and keep it
In complete agreement Bikram! For me a paper and a nicely sharped pencil is still the most
favorite medium to express my thoughts… still try to do it sometimes but not as frequently as would like to- thanks to the keyboard.
And yes, thanks for dropping by and leaving a lovely comment on my entry!
Thank you so much. Yeah same here the keyboard has taken over i guess in all phases …
So true. My handwriting has gone for a toss since I started depending heavily on the laptop.
I think its same this side tooo.. even i am losing it.
wonderful take on the theme!
well done!!
Thank you Deepak sir. How are you doing.
hi bikram thanks for visits i never hardly write on paper anymore im left handed anyway and my hand writings the pits but your right pc has taken over with thinking writing shopping but i would be lost without it besides i wouldnt get to know people like you have a great day xxjen
YEah Pc’s have taken over , now we write with the keyboard … I do it tooo ..
thank you
Keep writing. It has been a long time since we exchanged hand written notes. May be time to catch up again…
Yes maybe we should try it out again and see how it goes and get more people involved
I keep on writing,infact i learnt cursive writing from my daughter’s book….
You can’t express your personal touch in any other way!
I know we cant express it any other better way but somehow we see less and less people are using a pen-paper-hand to write …
You’re right but as I sit more and more on the comp getting out that pen and paper is becoming rare. The only letters I continue to ‘write’ are to my brothers on rakshabandhan.. a ritual I’ll try to stick to through life.
yes not jsut you.. its the case with a lot of people .. Yess dont stop doing that I still look forward to those letter in the Rakhi
That’s a super entry for the theme!
I started writing only recently.. and tapping away on keyboards. So I am most comfortable with that and cannot write with pen/pencil. I know, surprising, isn’t it, esp from someone of my generation!
I guess typing is easier and with all the tools spell check grammer etc makes it easier …
Absolutely true… My handwriting has gone for a toss. These are the best tools.
I recently read an article where teachers in some country were planning to do away with cursive writing altogether so that children could learn how to type faster.
Thank you Chhavi. that is silly learning to type faster.. not good not goood
wow!rightly said:) nothing beautiful than a pen, paper and a few ink spills:)
Thank you.. nope it is indeed beautiful.
Wonderful take on the prompt.
Though I do try and write with real pen/pencil often, but my laptop has definitely taken over my love for writing on paper
CB thank you so much. laptop rulesssss
Bikram, I don’t agree with you. Before invention of paper, people used to write on leaves – I still remembering seeing those in the Period Movies where they have wired long piece of wood to write.. When people started writing on paper, I am sure there were some who said , “Hey continue to write on leaves?”
When people started using Ball Point pen, lovers of Ink pen said, “Ball Pen is not good. Write with Ink Pen.”. No one can tell me why ink pen is better than ball pen. I could say ink pen is messy.
Now we use key board and that will take over the pen/pencil and eliminate paper completely in some years.
Then we will have advanced tablets where we can write on pad (like IPAD but more advanced)…that is happening now………..so we will be back to writing with hand in stead of typing but on a pad electronically.
I am sorry about that. I know what you say but What I am saying is we are losing the art of writing by hand.. thats all… Somehow paper pen hand make it all nostalgic dont you think.. when we got the letter from loved ones and see those written words … now its not the same seeing it all typed … Well to me its not the same
Even if we gget to type on the ipad and send its still not the same as the touch of the paper and the words written .. But then I guess I am old fashioned unlike the reast of the world
My first expression as soon i saw the pic was literally… LOL!
A wonderful take on the theme!! Oh yes, Technology rules our lives now!
indeed it does. and winner takes it all ..
when i first started blogging all my posts were on paper. i used to keep a notepad & pen nearby & always preferred to write it on paper first & then type it out on system. but a year into it, now i type it out directly on a word doc!
i cant say i am missing the pen & paper routine. i have in fact cut down the duplication & escaped my incorrigible handwriting
SAME here , I use to do the same but now i guess human nature is to go for easier and typing direct and doing a spell check is easier .. I do try to write now and then.
yes i understand what you saying on duplication, but emotions and feelins are more in hand written.
True…They are indeed the best tools!
Yessssssssssssssss
thank you.
Despite MS word, there’s a special feeling when I put my thoughts down on a paper. Paper and pen anytime!
oh yes true indeed thos written words on paper hav a completely different meaning then the typed words for sure
nice photo
yes now a days more and more people are finding it difficult to write on paper using pen.
Thank you SM.
Na rey. I like to type, and am really fast. I type as I think. Pen and paper? Old school
lai par old is gold
hana
Even I type fast and do mostly that .. yet as i said hand written has a different nostalgia
I agree with you. With computers, my handwriting has become bad now.
Thank you rajesh. mine is not that great either
Lovely picture. I always love and prefer to write on paper rather than email. Though nowadays people do not send letters but I still write to my parent’s uncle and aunty who are old and not used to computers. I feel its very touching when we pen down some lines on paper.
My brother has taken the pictures when he went to China.
Thank you so much mam. I use to write . but nowadays instead of writing pick up a phone and talk and they do the same too ..
Hello.
I saw this post in the group We The Bloggers.
I would be considered old fashioned as I STILL write all my poetry and thoughts on paper. I need to have immediate access when a thought comes into my head. It’s not always possible or convenient to type, especially when I’m at work, but I can write anywhere. My trusty Executive Assistant then types them all on the computer for printing/storing. I haven’t reached the realms of modern technology when it comes to typing and to be honest, I don’t want to. For me, there’s something magical, even sensual (in a poetic sense) about pen & paper in my hand…we compliment each other. I might even go so far as to say my pen is my muse.
Nice post.
Thanks for sharing.
The Sweet Voice Of Love
Its not old fashioned its a GOOD habit ..
I work mostly on computers so i find reaching for a pen and paper a bit inconvenient …
Agree with you
Nice post indeed..
Hello simran.. thank you so much.
Tagged you! Check it out!
http://shomoita-dreamer.blogspot.com/2011/10/tag-request-history-behind-blogging.html
Thank you so much for tagging me , I will definitely take it up for sure
Exactly true, Bikram… the pen and paper will always be valued.. As for me, I find typping easier because my thoughts are always jumbled and I have to type, delete type so many times that its better to use a computer rather than a pen and paper..
THank you Punam. i also type most of the time now but i miss writing
Simple and nice take on the prompt!! Indeed.. the words flow better in writing than typing!!
Thank you so much. yes and also when once written you cant backspace or change
..Hand writing is nice
mine is good too ..all indian kids …old school I guess write well.
mine is cursive ..and I still write ..in-spite of the modern era ..I love to write..
many a times on my desk my personal notes or even …lesson learnt..for today
its all your love for pen and pencil ..which makes you write.
Yeah i rmemeber we were made to write so many pages each day to perfect the art .
oh well … when i work, i have to write … so ..
but yeah .. the snail mail i send friends never gets me a reply !
Didnt u have to use cursive writing in school ? It was a must for us !
I need to GOOGLE what is cursive writing
yes we had it all , sundays was compulsory letter writing days … but these days its all keyboards …
Brilliant and charming take on the theme. Technology can’t beat the charm of paper and pen. Lovely Shot!
THank you so much and welcome to this blog
I prefer writing to typing, guess I am too set in my ways to change with the times
I write in my notebook and then transfer the notes to my laptop. Nice post…
Welcome to this blog .. Thank you for visitng me …
Its a good habit I want to take it on tooo .. I try to.
Couldn’t agree more, Bikram. Very well said.
Thank you so much Rakesh sir.
I still cherish hand written letters and cards:)
me tooooooooooo
I have them safely tucked away in my room
Writing down few lines daily was my this year’s resolution and i am keeping up with it .I enjoy writing with ink pen .
Excellent .. yayyyyyyyyyyyy I need to make one of those resolutions toooo
And i also write my post on paper first .
I used to do it that way but now I guess got lazy and type it straight on blog
Oh, yes.It has been ages since I received or wrote a letter in yeras
soon we will lose the art i guess … it will be all typed up
OMG! that is soo true…. Sometimes I write down some notes at work… but when I see my handwriting…. keep thinking was I this bad?? I see my son writing in cursive and I am sitting next to him trying to write…. its like going back to school again…
… what was I need to do
….
Good post… simple and precise…
Thank you so much and welcome to this blog .. please do kee visiting
Thats a nice and simple pic! I sometimes wonder how I used to write three hour exams before. I can barely write for 10 mins at a stretch now. Typing has spoiled us rotten.
Truly Apt for the challenge!
Thank you so much. 10 minutes is so long for me .. typing has indeed spoiled us all
This page made me feel so nostalgic about the joys of writing with a pen. I have almost abandoned my diary. Will try to spare some time to spend with paper n pen. Have great weekend ahead
Same here , I dont get to write the diary as much as i used to .. I will have to go back to it ..
Thank you so much .. hope you had a great week
Oops…typo…Have a great weekend ahead
well..that was a creative idea fr thursday challenge
Thank you so much Tomz
glad you liked it
oh, they are for sure
Thank you sir.
Me too like pen, pencil and letters over others
Love this.
Thank you so much
Oh yeah, true that…that’s why I make it a point to write some(using pen-paper) once in every some while!
Loved your Thursday Challenge
Thank you so much. GLad you liked it. I try to write with a pen as often as i can
That reminds me of my childhood summer vacations when I struggled to write that perfect g in my English handwriting book.
you see press the G on the kepboard and it comes out perfect each time …
I didnt read the comments you got. Did anyone tell you how legible and neat your hand writing is?
Mine is so messy :-/
oh come on I am sure yours is till better then mine..
mine is legible yes but neat i doubt
THANK YOU so much for saying that though…
Nice photo Bik
I still use memos and pencil to write my short stories and poems…but I still need computer to share them…otherwise, no one will read my twisted stories.
thank you.
.whatever may be the benefits of new upcoming technology…… the aroma of paper and ink is just incomparable….
Irfan sir.. I totally agree with what you have said …
Couldn’t agree more with you. Today whgile cleaning the house i got some old letters and it was such a nstalgic feeling…. emails dont givet he same…
Besides writing wit pen we never needed backspace so much
it is indeed nostalgic reading those.
yes no backspace.. and if they cut it we know it
Though I have always loved the smell of note paper and old books and been in and out of love with ink, writing is something I have never cherished:( Typing is always been better for me.
And I’m a bad, bad writer because of that I’m sure:(
In school we had compulasory sunday letter writing . i was in hostel .. so I have written a lot of letters and recieved them tooo
I totally agree with you.
My mom’s dairy that she used to write in her youth ;her collection of poetry and prose-is still smiling in my bookshelf.Even after 25 years i can smell her through blurred words,Her writing style make me remind her whole personality.
certainly an MS-word ‘s correctly composed file cant do this ..
oh wow I bet that is cherished .. reading all that WOW…
Actually I make a point of writing at least two or three times a week as the art of the written word is often lost through the use of computers and the like, I have always prided myself on having a very neat hand writing and so this is something that I do not wish to lose…
The trouble these days is that we are spoiled for choice but we must never stop writing with the good old pen and paper as that is very important I think… Have a very good rest of weekend Bikram and thank you for calling into my Space and adding your thoughts to my scripts
Androgoth
This is a good habit.
yes we are spoilt for choices , I hope so that we never stop writing ..
How was your week.. mine ws ok …
my god 74 comments on your hand writing…as in your hand and your handwriting-kya baat hain..i am so kicked to know the most popular and loved person in the blogosphere-yiy, yiy, yiy:-)

what ever you say i am is because lovely people as you read and comment … so THANK YOU tooooo
Indeed.
Holding a pen and writing on a book is indeed the best way to capture the thoughts. It never lets you down
So true sir… it never lets you down moreover true emotions come out toooo
I recently started writing in a notebook on a friend’s suggestion.. its really fun !
And oh, i liked the font you write in
clear and cute sort ..
Thank you so much, I am glad you could read it as I think my handwriting is not that great …
Typing straight on the computer somehow does not capture feelings
Yes it doesNot…
hi bikram just tapping the key pad again hope your weekends been good xxjen have you sharpened any pencils
Week was fine how did your week go
My handwriting sucks to the core and is totally incomprehensible now thanks to no practice
You know where my loyalty lies now

Wish you a very Happy Diwali.
Thank you mam
and a very happy diwali to you too Hope you had a great one
Hi Bikram,
Have been lurking in this space for some time. This post made me nostalgic and brought back memories of my college days. I used to write letters to school friends who had moved to different cities for college. Those days of waiting for the postman, excitement on opening an envelope and reading a ‘handwritten’ letter was so magical. I really miss it.
You have a wonderful space out here. Hopped in via R’s Mom’s. Following you…

hehehehe u have childish handwriting
Thank you mam.. childish indeed dil to abhi bacha hai na
Yea true. I too use to write all my poems and thoughts on computer. If am not at home then in moblie. It saves paper I know, but writing on a paper has its own value. Your hand-writing shows: you are soft spoken (as you write round fonts).

Wow, I can’t believe Sadiya’s writing, and she appears to be a teacher. This is amazing!!
Anyhow, I agree there’s something very special about handwritten – and there always will be.
@wordsfallfrommyeyes Thank you so much. and welcome to this blog
yes handwritten are notes are very special for sure …
I love writing on paper…true talk!
Thank you so much. I love writing too but its getting lesser and lesser
I love writing so much that I enjoy all forms of them. I love scribbling in my journal, writing on scraps of paper, saving notes in my cell phone and of course typing on my laptop. I think if the passion is writing, it doesn’t really matter how you do it, you will enjoy it anyway..
Welcome here to this blog , thank you for visiting please do keep visiting …
What you say is very right but what i was trying ot say is that these days most people use a kepboard then the pen and hand …
How are you dear friend Bikram?
My hand aches when i write on paper. Now i wonder how i use to write those long answers during those school days.
Thank you so much. I am doing fine and how are you doing.
Exactly my thoughts how did we manage to write all those days when in school …
very true .! my friends cant even make out my hand writing these days lol
BTW, Bikram… my colleagues pull my legs about the fact that I write such long long summaries.. he he he… school se aadat hai na.. exams mein kam se kam 20 pages bhar deti thi.. its a shocking thing now to think ki hum 20-30 papers 3 hours mein kaise likhte the.. ajeeb na???
Now, my once-upon-neat handwriting has become a doctor’s handwriting ..!!! Yours is phir bhi neat. u should see when I am scribbling.. will put up a page from my notepad some day.
Really wowo you are great I cant write more than a page now.
mine is neat WOW.. thank you thank you
absolutely…
Someone is Special
Thank you so much SIS
